I don't understand the hate, either. Tesla is at the forefront of electric vehicles and has laid down the foundation for everyone. They're incurring significant amounts of cost and blazing a trail for our future.

Are they in a good financial situation? It doesn't seem like it. That comes with the risk that Musk took. Even if Tesla doesn't stick around, what they started will - and for a very long time.

Yawn. I personally have no interest in an electric vehicle of any kind, until it can recharge its batteries as fast as I can fill a gas tank. I don't give a crap how fast they can go. I plan to stick with the ICE until that is no longer possible.

Not sure where you got hate fest. The point is everyone is clamoring over this new battery tech and to date it hasn't materialized. Tesla is arguably at the forefront of this technology yet it's mass-appeal EV hasn't arrived. Why would BMW be any different? :

Hate fest is where your comment will most probably lead. It happens routinely.

That said, hate fest, love fest, does it matter? The thread is about BMW's electric road map. The moment you bring in Tesla, it becomes a discussion about Tesla. It's not on topic for the same reason Ford or GM's ability to release a product isn't on topic in a thread about BMW's next 3 Series.

It's a thread about future vehicles. So its no surprise the tech hasn't arrived. By definition, it should not have arrived yet. Furthermore, if that is your point, then it would be better made by simply stating that outright. Your original post didn't mention a single thing about batteries, it only mentioned a lack of product from Tesla.

Tough to win here. If I remove the constant Tesla muck outright, you'll see people cry foul and make accusations of bias. If I leave it, the thread degenerates and people (rightly) complain about that.

Talk about Tesla as much as you like - its a great topic to debate. I'm only trying to keep it from seeping into every last thread.

A proper BMW sedan fully electrified would definitely make me stay with BMW when the time comes for my next car. I'm looking forward to seeing what BMW releases in the next several years.

For those who did not see it, in a recent article that was posted to this forum, Automobile Magazine gave their take on what they believe is BMW's future electric lineup:

http://www.automobilemag.com/news/sh...bmws-due-2025/

Now they do mention the BMW/McLaren tie-up, and while we know from a later report that a McLaren-derived BMW supercar is said to be dead, other technology sharing opportunities may still remain.

At any rate, they speculated that the following are BMW's upcoming electric models:

i1 - 1 Series electric, de facto successor to current i3
i3 - 3 Series electric
i4 - 4 Series electric
i5 - crossover-like model sized between X3 and X5
i7 - 7 Series (next generation) electric
i8 - second generation goes full electric
iNext - "i20" automated EV

iX1 - X1 electric (China only)
iX3 - X3 electric
iX5 - X5 electric (including LWB)

The articles mentions CLAR WE and FAAR WE (evolution of UKL) architectures. I assume "WE" stands for something like "with electric" or perhaps a German phrase of the same meaning. They also mention sheet metal differences for electric models based on series models. And later models will have AWD, and inductive charging is coming too.
