Bel Stir+ and Laser interceptor

Hey Guys

I should be receiving my 2014 M5 Tomorrow and am having a Bel Stir+ Unit and the Laser interceptor unit (BMW edition) along with escort live installed. I was quoted 10-12 Hours of labor at $130.00 an hour by my dealer. The reason for wanting this done by the dealer is so that is correctly installed and that the car will not be damaged. Is 10-12 hours reasonable? Also if anyone has detailed pics of their install that would really help me out. $1300-$1500 Just to install this unit seems ridiculous to me. They offered the passport 9500ci unit with install for $2100.

That's crazy.. you can get the Bel and LI's installed for $600. You must have a decent qualified shop around you. It's not that complicated.

thats what i was thinking it shouldn't be more than $500-$600. I don't think it should be more than 5-6 hours to complete.

The time budget sound right, but the labor rate of $130/hr is too high for something like this. My install of the same equipment took two guys most of a day and cost $700. Their work was top notch.

Having Bel Stir+ unit and LI quads installed installed next week by a highly regarded local company with total labor for installation at $595.00. Your guy has a hyper inflated view of his time. I'd look elsewhere.

My installer was recommended by Ferrari of Atlanta and he charged $700 and did it in about 5 hours.

If you haven't done so already, call or email Cliff at LI and ask if he has an installer he can recommend in your area. He sent me to a shop here in California, they were familiar with the product and did a great job.

And don't assume that the dealer's price premium will buy you a better install. I bet they have less experience with aftermarket installs and fabrication of the various mouldings vs. your average premium car audio shop.

Absolutely right. Dealers have far less experience with this work and usually do a worse job.

Yes it will work fine.

Thanks. I have bought 20+ Lexus Vehicles from the same dealer. They give decent deals but nothing special.

I Called Cliff at LI and he said that he did not have anyone to recommend. I did however call my local Porsche dealer and they told me to take it to Custom Sounds. I looked online and the the place and location looks very shady. The BMW of dealer did a 9500ci install on my 2012 X5M for me before and did a good job. Also if they screw up anything i can refuse the car. Something i can't do if i take it to a third party.

At least try and low ball the dealer. If you are going that route doesn't hurt to tell them what's up.

Im thinking of telling them to do it for $800. Anymore im just going to walk away from the deal.

Got mine done for free by my dealer, Front camera and GPS Rider install

There is a consistency issue in their quote.

Installing a 9500ci and a Bel + LI are very similar in terms of amount of work.

The 9500ci MSRP is $1500 and wholesale is probably around $1100. So if he is quoting you $2100 installed - then he's charging $1000 for install with the detector at cost.

$800 seems like a reasonable price to me for the labor.
