Auto start/stop disable by default?

Hi folks.

Received a brand new M5 last Monday. Having a blast with it.

I have two questions.

1. When M5 starts, I always have to turn off auto start/stop feature. Is there a way for it to be disabled by default?

2. Break-in period of 2,000 km (1,200 miles) for engine. (No kick-down, never go above 170km/h and/or 5,500 RPM.
Did you guys follow the break-in rules written in the owner's manual?

You can disable the start stop by coding.

Air conditioning is also turned on by default when I start M5. Does this require coding so that the air conditioner only turns on when I manually switch it on?

1) push the toggle button below the engine start button to disable the auto start/stop. The car will remember the last setting.

2) no idea.

I always stick to the running in guides, I don't want any hassle if there is any future problems and it comes into question.. small price to pay for 1200 miles, which you could actually get out of the way quite quickly if you really wanted

1) When M5 starts next day, it does not remember the last setting. It defaults to Auto Start/Stop = Enabled. Annoying.

What year is your car? I know that 2014 models in the US default to the last setting.

take it to dealer and ask them to re-program it! it doesn't take too long! I had the same issue so I know for sure what I'm talking about lol ... BTW If you read your car manual and search the Auto Start/Stop, it mentions that the last setting is default! (in case your dealer denies it)

In the US, 2014 models keep the last setting by default as GNALUZU mentioned.
So if I turn it off, it'll be still off until I physically turn back on (it does not reset by itself).

Just checked the owner's manual again. It does not say anything about Auto Start/Stop function remembering last setting used.

Its simple toggle ...provided you have the right software and cable.
Post 2013 dealers in USA are coding the stop/start not sure about Korea.
If you have some computer skills you can easily adjust this settings easily.

M6-Coupe is right. Take the car to the dealer.

Edit: just noticed you are in Korea. I have no idea how it is programmed to work there. Ask the dealer.

Search this in manual:

Semi-automatic mode
After every start of the engine, the Auto Start
Stop function is in the last selected state, refer
to page ...

Unfortunately I cannot attach the Use's manual
I tried several times but I got time out error

I agree, as long as the switch is in the right mode, start/stop never happens. I don't think I've ever even tried the start/stop feature. Mine has always been off/disabled. AND. I don't have to keep hitting the toggle every time I start the car. It is off, period.

Thanks for your input guys.

I checked with my dealer and several M5 owners in Korea.

There must be differences how iDrive is coded between US, Europe and Korea.
M5 in Korea defaults to Auto Start/Stop enabled when the car starts. The only way to make it remember the last setting is to get it coded.

As in your case, in Europe the car is coded to default start/stop to on. It's debatable about the effectiveness of this technology and its long-term implications on the car, so I chose to disable mine by myself, since my dealer would not do it for me saying it was "not possible". However, if you are interested and wish to educate yourself on how to do something your dealer will not do, find an obdII to Ethernet cable on ebay, and the BMW programming software and data (E-Sys and its respective PsdZDatafile), you can easily code your car by yourself. The setting, if you find a coder, is TCM_MSA_MEMORY set to aktiv. Optionally, you can also defeat start/stop entirely by turning TCM_MSA_DEFAULT_OFF to aktiv.
