So now I have 800 miles, brakes scream at every stop. VERY bad.

But not like normal brake noise...more like nails on a chalkboard, or metal on metal. Terrible.

I understand it's normal, I guess.

Have you broken in the brakes as mentioned here numerous times?

I recently spoke with dealer's service department about this and their response was that it's NORMAL for the brakes on the M5/M6. Luckily, mine only makes that annoying noise when it's cold enough for example something like below 0°c.

Then a couple of high speed stops should make the squealing go away for awhile. Other 'tricks' are to keep the wheels/brake components clean of brake dust and to place an anti-squeal compound on the backing plates of the pads.

Use some wheel cleaner on them for a couple of minutes every few weeks or once a month, it will go away! I swear in this trick. Huge THANKS to the OP.

Special pads work for couple weeks and the problem will be back again. I tried it. leave it alone it is what it is Just try to do hard braking every other day...

Brakes

I have a 2013 M5 and the brakes have squeaked constantly. It's been to the shop seven or eight times. They have replaced the pads twice. And every time, within a week, the squeaking is back. Dealership working to get me into another car, but given the postings on this forum, I'm not sure that another M5 won't have the exact same issue. And as I consider an M6 Grand Coupe, I don't know whether the M6 brakes have the same issues as the M5. Any insight?

Squeaky brakes

Has anyone tried ceramic brakes on their M5? I would like to know if it really helps to reduce the annoying sound made by the brakes.

My brakes started to squeal and last weekend I did a airstrip attack event where I did 15 passes to 155 mph with aggressive braking after. Squeal is now gone.

2014 LCI M5, have been squeaking since 500km, now I have 6000km still squeaks but can't reproduce every stop. Most of the time it squeaks when trying to slow stop at light, doesn't squeak when breaking hard.

I noticed after each cleaning, it goes away for few weeks but comes back. I use the sonax wheel cleaner.

I will try the break bedding process above, hopefully it will remove squeak completely.

Should I even ask the dealer about this, or will they just tell me its normal?

Ask your dealer! I had a pair of new brakes for my front wheels. I have been driven for 1500 miles, they dont squeak. I have already requested two more brakes for my rear wheels.

I think they all make noise no matter on m5 or m6. However, we dont know what kind of brake will bmw use on the new m3 and m4 model.
