I've done this on all three of my BMW's dating back to 2007. Brought all of them in for service with no issue. I even asked my SA about it and he said there is no problem in doing it. If you had a CEL come on, then you might want to take them off before servicing just so there isn't an issue.

Because I have a can of 1000 of them, I use the cheap clearish white zip ties (one on each side) and it takes about 90 seconds per side, no jack required. Just make a loop around the actuator arm and the support bracket with the zip tie, push the actuator in and keep pressure on it while you pull the zip tie tight. The zip tie will work its way up to the hinge between the actuator arm and the flapper arm and get stuck there.

The zip ties are far enough away from the heat that I've never seen them melt.

Easy and worth it but I always want more noise!

Thanks for those who contributed. I found an easier solution (at least for me). I used hose clamps instead of wires to hold the flapper open. Not really visible from the outside as you can see in the pictures. Once you get the hose clap around the piece that control the valves, just tighten the screw until the valves open and you're good to go. No need for wires/cutters. Also, very easy to remove.

Good choice, that's what I did as I found it complicated to get the wire around the valve tightly.

It's a cheap and easy mod

+1 to the flap mod. Just did it. Sounded a little louder. Nothing crazy

Did this on my old F06 GC with MPE and with the current one with the Dinan exhaust (which is a tad too tame for me).this was before I trimmed the excess. [IMG][/IMG]

Is tying the valve open bad for the valve?

Which fuse to pull for the valve?

Won't that keep it permanently closed, not open? Need to zip tie after pulling?
