Best filter(s) for the msr intakes
I've got the ones that come the msr intakes, but I've seen a lot of guys running k&n filters that are about twice the size and length that pretty much fill up the entire space.
Are the k&n filters any better? Also, recently heard guys saying the msr filters are the reason the intakes make the sounds it does. I dont think that filters are the culprit, but feel free to enlighten me. So should i keep the msr filters or do k&n? Or does it make no difference at all(more likely) |

I hate the socks, restricts airflow some.

Filter A gets soaked in the rain Filter B does "not get soaked" in the rain Where do you think that water goes on filter B? I'll give you a hint, it doesn't magically evaporate. -R |

That's my opinion. You'll have yours. Leave it at that.

OP. Whoosh volume is 100% attributable to filter and its location. K&N filters better at the expense of some sound.
The goal right now is to fit blitz filters onto RK's intakes, you'll get sound, good design, and carbon fiber. All at a lower price point. |

From what I've gathered from these intake threads is that the blitz filters don't filter as well as K&N. So the question is, do you need that level of filtration given the bends in the intake pipes? If blitz let's pass finer debris, will it make it into your engine?....I think so. If I had chosen MSR, I would probably have fitted better filters.

Apexlocator, filtration is down to the filter medium, the bends don't make a difference.
13F10M5, think you are saying the K&N filter cotton gets damp from rain where the MSR stainless filter doesn't hold as much- there is some thruth to this but you are talking very small difference in water holding capacity and this has no bearing on a running engine where both filters will pass the same amount of water in the same conditions. Stainless mess holds water- wet a sieve and then banging it on your hands- you will notice the water it held, the finer the mesh and bigger the area the more water. The K&N filter socks are there just to run off water when jet washing etc only, it will pass water the same as a stainless mesh once there is a negative pressure on the inside i.e engine running. Eitherway this makes no difference to the engine (other than very small positives in volumetric efficiencys, cooling and carbon cleaning) unless you drown the filters in a flood, or deep puddle then both filter types will hydro lock your engine- the OEM airboxes have large holes (country / weather specific) in the base to help with this issue (which I see a lot of people blank off lol) So everyone is right and wrong lol. |

Blitz filters have 200-150 micron mesh. K&N is rated up to 10 microns, I think. The Blitz is much less restrictive. It will allow much more airflow, but also much more dust. If your looking for filtration of dirt and dust then K&N is the answer. Air flow and a bigger whoosh sound? Blitz.
