Sway Bar Comparison

I did some research and made a chart which I think may be helpful on the available options of sway bars for the F10 M5. The comp package #'s were based on people's posted measurements which may not be 100% accurate.

The RDSport sways seem to be a good reasonably priced option. Anybody try them?

Thanks for spending time making the chart to help us!
Dinan seems like solid upgrade even from Comp pack.

Assuming you got the percentages from the manufacturer’s ....I am just wondering how they calculated them?

Wish we could find the weight differences too.

This could be an excellent informative thread on the sways options. Especially if the OP updates any results. Possible sticky.

Can anyone getting sways installed please weigh their outgoing and incoming sways and post results.
I will contact the manufacturers and try to get info on how they rate stiffness.

I installed the BMW competition pack bars a while back, and the weight difference from stock can't be much. The smaller diameter of the middle of the front bar is one inch which is a little over 16" wide. The CP bar has that smaller diameter for less distance, 8", while the rest of the bar is the same diameter as stock at 1.15". There was very little difference between the stock rear bar and the CP bar, but BMW knows a lot more than I do about designing suspension, and maybe there's a reason for that....?

Good luck getting relevant info from manufacturers. Dinan gives a % increase, but wouldn't tell me how they rate either the stock bar, or theirs. Just as with a spring, I'd like to have a pounds per inch of deflection number to base a decision on. Can't be that hard to do. And remember, stiffer isn't necessarily better. Too stiff and you lift a tire off the pavement. The Dinan bars must be lighter, but even at 10 pounds front and 5 pounds rear, of sprung weight on a 4,400 pound car, not a big deal.

I have been very pleased with the change to the CP sway bars. Much more planted on turn in, and through the corner.

Great! You can update the chart with Dinan and cp sway weights.

Did you have dealer install them? and is the steering wheel heavier than stock now?

I installed them myself. I remember reading some posts from owners who had a changed steering feel after the sway bar install and wondered why that would be. The steering effort of mine is still the same, although I always drive in Sport mode, whether street or track, just so I have the response I'm used to. The four large bolts which attach the front sway bar brackets are also important to the steering. They hold the steering gear to the front axle carrier, and are torqued to 100Nm (74 ft pounds) with a large 105 degree rotation after the torque value is reached. It's not a difficult install, but I suppose it could be goofed up by somebody. Unfortunately there's a lot of unwrapping to do to check those bolts.

You won't get a different steering feel in normal driving (at least from my experience when changing to the M5 CP FSWB). But when driving hard/on the limit, I would definitely say that the steering feel is different in the sense you get more feedback from the front tires and have a much better sense of how the front tires load up during hard cornering. It gives much more confidence and feel for the limits of adhesion from the front tires.

I guess the difference might be less going from a M5 FSWB to a M5 CP FSWb, but those that have upgraded to a CP FSWB seems to report similar experiences.
