I still don't understand. If this guy was caught speeding like the chap in the article it wouldn't be unexpected work absence? As if I read the article correctly there is a delay between being caught and trial and therefore jail time.

Soooma. You had good intentions on writing your post. But you never stated what happened to your friend. If he were hurt people would say get well. If he got speeding and went to jail people would say that's messed up and we all need to choose a time and place to pick our battles. I'm sorry for your friend and how you feel.

The problem was, as almost everyone has pointed out, the lack of information in your posts. The way you wrote I first thought it was something REALLY serious, like your colleague being arrested for murder, child abuse or something else bad... Then I realized it wasn't THAT bad, but it seemed like you were making fun of the situation with using such dramatic words and phrases...
