Recommendations please !! Escort 9500Ci vs Cobra XRS 9970G? legal in NC ?!
I need help with this please
Had a Cobra touch screen for a long while and love it but wife will take it and I am looking to upgrade to one if those ones that are installed on the front bumper and very hard to spot! Any other recommendations? Escort 9500Ci is the one I am looking at now? vs Cobra XRS 9970G Worth it????!! 2000$ installed???? Open to look at better ideas!! I do care for how it looks .... Reason why I got the Cobra with the about 2 " x 2" colored touch screen - But I heard there are better ones out there and I don't want the looks to hop me back In order of importance 1. Range has to be really good and safe 2. All types of signals including laser 3. Looks - 4. Escort 9500Ci legal? With Radar Laser Diffuser? 5. Escort 9500Ci easy to install? 6. Worth 1500$ plus installation vs my Cheap Cobra 200$? Why? Again I am open to learn from your experiences too, not limited to my list - Thank you

Worth every penny.
Bel Stir+ best installed radar hands down (fact). It's the basically same hardware as the 9500ci ( escort owns bel) but the bel engineers took it a few steps further tuning the sensor. I purchased mine for new around $800. I can recommend a few vendors via pm. Retail is 12-1400 I think. Laser jammer is other option. There are to company's that are worth buying. 1 - laser interceptor ( new model should be released soon) and ALP. I have both. ALP is a solid company and the jammer is a brand new gen. It was proven a few week ago to jam the " unjammable" gun( dragon eye ). Laser interceptors current model Can not jam it. Also note that the current escort laser jammer is the old laser intercepter. A great resource is radar detector forum (rdf) www.radardetectorforum.org/

Big spender? Go for a Bel STiR Plus paired with Laser Interceptor HP Quad heads (Laser jammers are legal in North Carolina).
Going for a more value oriented approach? Get a Valentine 1 (for sensitivity) or an Escort Max (for tranquility). Now do yourself a favor and through away your Cobra |

The laser shifters work wonders....
Just make sure to brake hard when you hear laser shifted and get your system to shut off automatically once you brake so then they can get a reading when you are in the speed limit.

Thank you guys for all the nice replies
At least now I know I had a lousy Cobra - And I thought I was protected!! Well now I am torn apart between 1. Valentine 1 which seems I can get latest version for 470$ 2. Beltronics Stir? With shifter or not? 850$ vs 1100$ on ebay 3. I hate Looks of escort max so no way - 4. Escort 9500Ci which is the most expensive... I really wanna hear more about #2 and #1 what am.o going to lose with #1 and why would I get #2 ? Close to 1k and mkre installed? I appreciate feedback regarding legal Laser Jammer In NC as I really don't wanna do anything illegal. Thanks I always I appreciate this forum members - |

I am seriously considering it but wanna know how complicated the install is? I don't have the patience to do it or the guts - So is it easy to find an auto store that does install it and how much to expect to lay for labor? Looks wise when it come to interior and exterior parts? If it is that good why almost 1/2 price of Escort 9500Ci? Especially I heard it is made by the same company?!! Where in the car it will be? I highly appreciate your feedback |

Bel and Escort have similar MSRP's. Some vendors just offer great deals in the Bel. It is proven that is it better then the 9500 during hard core testing. Don't get me wrong the 9500 is a GREAT detector the bel is just a bit better tuned. Go to RDF you will see all the test.
If you don't want to spend the money on a custom install setup get the windshield mount V1 (great all around), Escort Max (GPS lockout option like 9500 and Bel) and a great detector, or the Escort Redline that is the most sensitive of them all and is king of range but does not have GPS lock out. That will save you money. If you live in the city the Max may be your detector. I paid an installer from THE local high end local shop $300 to install both the ALP Jammer and the Bel. He did this at my house on his day off. That is a really good price. You could expect to pay around 4-700+ at the shop an depending on your custom level of install. I am not at home so i can't show you pics but many others have them posted. The controls are the same on the Bel and the 9500 only diff in the visible hardware is that Bel had a red text on the display and 9500 has blue. |

Get the Cobra. It suits you better. 9500ci is waste of money.
Plus that 2" color screen is awesome.

People seem to agree cobra is the waste of money! So since we are back to Cobra!! Cobra XRS vs V1? Thank you man as this will really save me money and I personally don't mind the wind shield mounted radar detectors!! - Just tell me why you think Bel or 9500Ci are a waste of money? I heard you are an expert ?!! BTW in NC it doesn't matter to have GTS LOCATIONS as there are no cameras!! Thanks |

I like the BT model best because it can download crowd sourced alerts similar to escort live. The bel is a great detector - but it is pretty advanced and unless you are a pro (which you are not) you won't know how to get the best out of it. The 9500ci is overpriced IMO. It's less good at radar than the bel, and the jammers are second rate. I think you either go whole hog and get Bel STIR+, LI Quad HP and Zeon MRX which will cost you $4k+ installed all in. Or you go for value with the Cobra. You have been using Cobra for years without problems so why dump them now?

Just to cosign what stealth.pilot said above on cost. My install was a touch over 4k. Found a place in Orlando that has previous experience with this setup and they did an overall good setup.
I skipped the Zeon MRX because they don't do air patrols nearly as much as they do in S. Florida. FYI I routinely enjoy the power of my beast! |

I trust you stealth.
I will be more specific in terms of my situation. I occasionally run the I-4 corridor between Daytona Beach and Orlando. I have rarely witnessed air patrols. Also, I run I-95 between Jax and Melbourne. Once again rare air patrols. My last ticket, about 5-6 years ago was on 95 South in Broward with air patrol! My first ticket I got when I lived in Miami was on the snapper creek expressway. 100 in 65! Was by air patrol! That being said, I don't make the 75 run much at all. |

I've got the Bel STIR Plus with a Valentine One for support and HP LI's. Great setup.

Sooma,
Thankfully, despite how red faced /pissed off the trooper was initially I explained where I was going. Which was to a intern mixer in coconut groove! He saw my "badge" in my cup holder and that was enough to spare me jail(30 mph over is considered reckless driving and officer has discretion to arrest you) I still got a max ticket though, which I believe was ~380 in 2004. Sadly, I never learned from that as I still drive with conviction regularly! Funny side story, my good friend got the screws put to him for driving 118 on the turnpike in his M3 by the law. So what does he do? Doubles down, trades the M3 and picks up a GTR......lmao |

They did not arrest him but impounded the vehicle.
License was suspended for 30 days. I believe he had to do 40hrs of community service. Plus all the associated cost, catching taxis for a month, get car out of the impound lot, lawyer, increase insurance rates. All said and done he said it was about 6k plus for the headache. Of course, he has more money than good sense and traded for the GTR. At the end of the day it's usually just about money, thus it's better to be proactive on the front end then reactive on the back end. |
