Brand new vs year or older

Hey so question for the people on the forum. How many people buy/lease the brand new M5's vs buying one that's maybe a year or two old with low mileage?

I have always leased these guys brand new(M3's) so i assume it's no different but I notice the price difference between a year old vs current year and it's rather significant.

Depreciation on M5 is crazy. If you want to lease it, there is no choice other than new but if you want to buy it, 20-30k saving is good enough to go for used one with low mileage; however you can get a great deal at right time with 10-15k off MSRP on new one too...You might find a 2015 model sitting on dealer's lot waiting for big discount now

Yeah I found a few 2015's they are willing to lease out still which I may make a move on. Just trying to see the general selection on these beasts.

Highest MSRP is correct. What he's trying to say is you can get a $110k MSRP M5 for almost the same price as a base $95k MSRP M5...

Freezey, not sure where you are, but if you're willing to go out of state, here are a few 2015s where the dealers will discount. When I was looking last month, I talked to all of these dealers, but ended up passing due to spec and pricing. Pricing was close, and a few have reached out to me again asking if I was still interested. They are probably willing to go lower.

I don't think you are going to find a manual transmission M5 just sitting on a lot. Dealers don't really order them unless they have a customer that is specing the car.

Gonna be tough to buy a used one too. I can't imagine that there are a lot of manuals around.

Yeah, I went through pretty much all the BMW dealerships in the country when I was buying my 6-speed this summer. Just went through the bookmarks I saved, they are all gone.

So I guess I am still curious what most on this forum do. We are talking about a 100k+ car so I just wonder if it's more personal preference or is there one side that more people here are on (lease vs buy vs cpo

Lease here and I'm glad I did as I'll be ready to move on when my lease is up. And there are a bunch of used M5's out there so I'll be glad I won't have to hassle with trying to sell it in a buyer's market.

But there's no right/wrong answer when it comes to lease/buy. I look at every situation differently. How long do you keep the cars? Are mileage restrictions an issue? I always try to find used/CPO first, but it's hard to find what you want. Kind of like real estate as there is always a compromise.

If you are looking at a manual, you might consider leasing as trying to unload a manual M5 might be tough unless you find the right buyer. I have never driven the manual, but I've read that it's not suited for the M5 and even a manual owner on here regrets getting the manual. But to each their own. I'm personally looking for a manual 911 in a sea of PDK's!

Plus, if the new m5 comes out in 3-4 years, value will drop even more. So leasing might shield you a little bit. Plus you can always buy it at lease end if you end up really liking the car.

Regardless of lease/buy, always try to negotiate price and then if you lease, negotiate the MF down to base rate. Then consider putting MSD's down.

Yeah makes sense. It's the same thing I do with all the previous gen M3's and now my new F80. Just got to the point of needed more room.

I want to wait for the new body M5 but I am rather impatient which is never a good thing.

I considered both choices. Ended up buying a 2 yr old M5 with 15k miles, all the options I wanted, plus extended warranty, so she's covered until 2019 or 100k miles.

This made the most sense for me. Leasing is a zero sum game, plus you'll always be stressing over the miles.

And yes, I know, you shell out less money up front for a lease, but the equity you'll have if you buy (over a similar term) will usually balance out. ...and you won't be counting miles.

Just my 2 cents.

Miles?

Trade your car one month before end of lease and miles are a non-issue
