The Passport Max has very few false alerts and marks via GPS and frequency the areas where duplicate alerts are found or where you mark it as false. Again it is rare and a very small fraction compared to the V1 now.

You can see Nick Murray's review of the 9500ci vs V1 here:

This will give you an idea of how the detectors compare.

Regarding arrows, I believe the patent has run out on that so we will see if Escort puts them on new detectors. Their rationale before was you should slow down with any alert so it doesn't matter where it comes from. I would like to see arrows on the Escort products personally.
Great video, very helpful.

Dont want to high jack the thread, but for those who still have their V1, try to turn on the Junk K fighter feature if yours is up to date, I just turned it on after work, it was a much better improvement on the way home, barely picked up any false alarms.

It does work but you lose all ability to detect K POP. If your area never uses this then it's safe. In NJ and other areas they use K and K POP so only disable at your own peril.

Other detectors segment bands and can ignore junk K and pickup and warn against real K or K POP. Just not V1

Which detector would you recommend that isn't too expensive? Escort Redline / Passport Max /8500x50?

Have you tried to custom sweep the V1? was reading on a RD forum and looks like V1 is getting more improvements, as well as the GPS under development. the bluetooth feature does help quite abit on the custom side.

This user has posted some useful info on how to change your V1 settings, I'm gonna give it a try once the BT dongle is here, still cheaper than passport, so I'm not gonna give up V1 yet.

There are quite a few parts of this video.

Guys, talking to an installer in Northeast. Pricey - about a $1,000 above what's mentioned in this thread. He seems very reputed (has done work on MCL P1, Porsche 918, MCL F1, to name just some of the cars).

He recommends installing the display unit above steering column unit, and the small control unit (with switches) in ash tray. I saw Nick Murray's video and saw that he had installed in on top left of the windshield to have it in his peripheral vision.

Questions:
1. Where do you guys normally mount the display and control unit? Can people post pics?
2. Installer recommended a quad laser shifter setup - 2 in front and 2 in rear. The total price differential in adding the rear laser shifters is $500
3. He recommended using a combination of Bel Stir+ and Blinder 905 Quads. Anyone else have experience with Blinder 905? The recommendation on the forum is for ALP but the installer mentioned that Blinder has the original technology and patents and something about ALPs distributor is not reliable (home business) and can't be relied on warranty support. Thought?
4. What really impressed me was that the installer asked me to wait till 1200 mile break in period to iron out any gremlins in the car. he said these are complicated systems and dealers can sometimes blame these systems for causing other issues in car. These cars will usually show problems from early on if there are any issues, so wait till 1200 mile service before installing this system!
5. What is your experience with cops with this system in states where they are banned, say Texas? Want to understand in case I ever have to move and removing this system is a pain in ass. I understand that the laser shifters are illegal in TX. Would the car pass inspection? Penalties for having it installed? My source is the Nick Murray video infographic about states where this is banned.

Thanks

For what you are doing, I was quoted $650 by car toys for the install. I went a slightly different direction and that increased my quote some due to the custom install. See my pictures. I paid a total of $1000 due to the mirror install. If your installer cannot install in mirror, look into this guy, he is in Frisco, TX and sells full kits as well. I dont know if he does full turnkey install but can do the mirror install for sure.

http://www.radar-mirror.com/

1. Where do you guys normally mount the display and control unit? Can people post pics?

I mounted mine in my mirror, it is a clean install and very stealthy. The only other options is above the mirror on the column if it is possible.

2. Installer recommended a quad laser shifter setup - 2 in front and 2 in rear. The total price differential in adding the rear laser shifters is $500

I ran with a rear shifter for 2-3 years and never has been off. On my M5, I went without it this time, not worth the extra $500. All laser shots I have been hit with have been on the front.

I agree with Bel Stir+ for radar but prefer the Laser Interceptor BMW Edition since it can be mounted in the best location which is in the kidney. Blider compact is definitly a great option as well but will need to be moved to where I have mine installed.

It is illegal in the state of Texas. I have recieve a citation for using my laser jammer while in Irving. The law specifically states its illegal to use it but it is not illegal to own it or have it installed. It wont cause any issues with inspection. The laser systems have a read only option and that is how they are sold in states where they are bannded. My installed put mine in read only mode and I quickly switched it to shift mode.

My ticket was $280 and we were able to negotiate it and wasnt a moving violation. Better than teh speeding ticket I would have gotten.

This is how mine is set up and it's great. Detects Ka two miles out. The laser shifter absolutely disables cops with laser and they have no idea what's happening. They just think they don't have a good angle. I have two shifters in front and one in back. It's the 9500ci and it's great. I also have Passport Max that I stick on the windshield in the other cars but it drops off frequently and that is annoying. Other than that, it's a great detector, same quality on Ka as the 9500ci and it detects laser but can't shift it.

Here are the pictures. Mine came with but I was told $500 for the installation I have.

Love the mirror install. So stealth. The installer I spoke with, said that he cannot do the mirror install if it's not a compass mirror. Will ping your reference.

Great info all along. Thank you so much! Good to know that we can have jammers installed and in read only mode but not shift in states like TX. But if the jammer is fully stealth, how would the cop know that the laser was being jammed? From what I understand the ALP, 9500ci, and Blinder are stealth systems. To Wrsbmw's point below, wouldn't cop just think they didn't get a good read and can't do anything about it?

Thanks again for all the info. Much appreciated!

Thank you sir for the info and post! Great setup!

Where have you installed your shifters in the P car (911 or Panamera?)

My installer was able to put the display unit in the mirror.

Where have you installed your shifters in the P car (911 or Panamera?)
It's a 911 and the two in front are in the front cowling while the one on back is above the license plate.

For you guys who cannot find an installer to do the mirror, he does it for a small fee with a core exchange.

Before and After my ticket, I spoke to several officers and I was told there is no way for them to know that their laser was jammed. They get an error and in most cases, I've been told that it errors out often. I was also told they would have to prove you used a laser jammer and they really can't. In my situation, I was traveling at high speeds and the officer used that to pull me over and while walking around my car was able to identify that I have a jammer. I probably could have fought it.

13M5F10, do you still have your F10? I work in Irving and would love to meet sometime and see your ALP setup--if ever free sometime.

+1 I'm in N. Dallas and would love to meet up w someone who has ALPs. Thinking about investing in their new setup which allows for vertical head installations making it easier for us w Bimmers.
