From an E9X M3 to an F10 M5

So with my lease ending very soon, I've been asking a lot of clients and friends what their thoughts were in terms of transitioning from an E92 M3 to an F10 M5. Prior to my 2013 E92 M3 I had a 2008 E92 M3 and in all honesty wanted to move away from BMW for awhile to try something new, but for those that have went from an M3 to an M5, how do you like it so far? Any pros or cons in your decision?

I had an E90 M3 and took ED on an F10 M5 back in December 2014:

Pros:

Larger Car - More space; I'm 6'4" so the width of the "cockpit" helps a lot for road trips
Luxurious - Options and overall finish is superior to the M3 IMO

Cons:

I do miss the high revving V8 (and engine noise)
Overall Driving experience; can feel hard accelerations and even corners more so in the M3 (due to the size of the M5)

That being said, I still prefer the M5 because it is more understated/ sleeper in appearance.

Yeah I'm 6'1" myself but haven't really had much seat time in an F10 M5, I've borrowed my friends for like two days but it was just around the city.

Do you have any mods done to your M5?

From E92 to F10. The stock M5 is a roll race King. You will kill most comers. The E92 front end feedback, feel, and turn in was outstanding. Other than that go M5. You can thank me now.

Bingo. I came from an E92 m3 as well. For daily driving purposes, no regrets whatsoever

From E90 to M5. While I loved my M3, IMO the M5 is far superior as a daily driver.

Handling: The M3 feels much lighter on its feet, which really shows in the corners. However, after getting used to the handling characteristics of the M5 I have no issue taking corners in the M5 at the same speed as I did in the M3.

Suspension: I did not have the adjustable suspension in the M3, so the M5's adjustable suspension is a great addition. By comparison, sports+ setting in the M5 feels like the stock setup in the M3. Comfort setting is perfect for long trips. I find myself in sports and occasionally sports+ when driving around town.

Power: No comparison here. In stock form the M5 is a monster with power all throughout the RPM range. I can only imagine what it would be like with a tune. M3 was lacking power for a daily driver.

Interior comfort/luxury- No comparison here. The M5 is far superior.

Exhaust: M3 with an exhaust is superior. However, I recently installed a muffler delete on the M5, and I am very happy.

Hmm this is all good to know, I've had a full size sedan in the past(2nd gen VIP'ed Lexus GS), so I know what luxury is but obviously the GS will never compare to an M5 where it offers both luxury and performance.

Went from a E92 M3 to a F10 M5. Different cars. M5 much more luxury and obviously bigger. Amazing torque and power but not as nimble. Love the toys.

I really like the M5 as a DD but also got a 911TT for a fun car.

Yeah my M5 will be both my DD and "fun" car, lol...

Just made the change from an E92 M3 to an F10 M5 last week. As others have said, you won't regret it. The only advantage the M3 has is the nimbleness and general feel when tossing it through corners. The M5 far surpasses it in every other way.

I am making myself a change from E90 M3 to F10 M5. E90 M3 on rough surfaces I always have around here i super uncomfy to the point that I do not even drive it.
Happy that making a change just can not decide which combination of the teo to go.

Never seen Singapore grey in the flash though. But I always have loved black or near to black cars.

I would seriously consider a new M3 instead of M5. I think it would be an overall better DD. I went from E92 M3 to M5 and miss the old car all the time. Sure the M5 will always be faster in a straight line but it is waaaay to heavy and a gas guzzler too. If u like taking corners fast you'll seriously miss an M3. I've added lowering KW springs and Dinan sways to my M5, but still miss the feel of M3 chassis. At least consider test driving the new M3 before making ur mind. GL either way!
