Your clutches are going bad. I had this and then I rebuilt my Tranny with the SSP clutches and it was smooth again.

If you are going to get rid of the car anyway, then don?t worry about it and sell it as is.

Hi. Mine does exactly same and we opened transmission and clutch is 100% fine. Then we opened rear differential and also 100% fine. it is software issue.
in 2014 and early 2015. you should get latest software and clear/reset all aplications. And then you will be fine.

Ok, i have the same problem with mine after upgrading to ssp clutches. The mechanic insisted it is nornal and I'm not quite sure it is. And another thing, sometimes from R to D, a second to two of hesitation?

I think these are all normal to an extent for the DCT. My e92 m3 did the same in reverse and D sometimes even on take off from first when cold.

I see a lot of guys here with not much knowledge that immediately state some catastrophic problem that it could be. Similar to when you google headache and google tells you it's some fatal disease.

Many of you that upgrade the clutch go through a clutch relearn procedure. If those who have this issue were to do the same I think the problem would be gone. It's more software than hardware.

I had the same shudder in reverse, thought it was normal. After running JB4 on map2 for a year I started getting shudder in 1st gear as well. I could feel my clutches slipping slightly at 5th and 6th gear as well.

After installing SSP clutches there is no shudder in either reverse or 1st gear and the gear engagement seems much sharper now.

Guys, shudder is caused by the clutch piston not applying enough pressure to the clutch pack during acceleration. This can be caused by a bad tune or JB4 unit that changes line pressure calculations via the canbus line. Shuddering can also be smoothed out by using the ISTA tool to do a clutch relearn. A relearn can only be successful when there is no line pressure manipulation.

Thanks. My tune has been out for a while. I will ask the dealer to relearn.

My 2014 M5 with 39k miles was experiencing the same shudder. Dealer inspected this week and found no damaged parts. Programmed with the latest software and issue resolved. Will update the post if anything changes.

The main reason I dumped my 2013 car. The dealer would not relearn the clutch despite multiple requests. Their protocol apparently strongly advises against it.
