'Tis The Season For NYC Potholes -- Beware

I was out driving yesterday, and the potholes are everywhere. It is not pretty out there, so be careful. Luckily, no damage so far, as I was doing some fancy tiptoeing.

In these conditions, I am especially paying close attention to the road surface, in case I have to react, and to the cars next to me, in case I have to react to their sudden movement. Also, I leave more room than normal, to the car in front of me, giving me more time to spot a pothole. And this is why I intentionally stayed with the 19' wheels -- to get a little bit more protection. Good luck, and safe travels.

Come over to the UK, it's "pot hole mania" many roads are just full of them.

Yea the roads are torn up here, very happy I'm running snows and 19s, I'd much rather damage these if something were to happen. I find myself following pretty far behind as well.

No joke! It's not just NYC, but I was in Philadelphia yesterday and HUGE potholes everywhere. Same thing with New Jersey, which I actually thought was worse! DC is terrible as well. I'm driving my Abarth around this morning and I was afraid my little Fiat was going to fall into one and not get out.

Just one more reason to appreciate the West Coast.

And with the potholes comes all the debris, I got a small chip in windshield too thanks to all the road grime.

Ive been driving my TL and the X5 for the last month! I took the M5 out a few times including today to go to the gym....since the weatherman said the snow wasnt coming anymore. What a surprise, i got caught in the snow on the way home. That was a scary experience!

I would not say west coast has nice roads. In California dave, I am sure you are aware of this. A lot of pot holes in LA and north county of San Diego like Oceanside, vista, fallbrook. besides the free ways. the roads have bad pot holes..

NYC roads are one big pothole. Its like driving a boat at night looking for mines...you have to be so careful. So far the 20s have held very well. The Michelin pss is fantastic tire. Rocks flying up too all over the place. Careful!

True there are potholes on the West Coast, but not on the level I'm seeing these days here on the East Coast. I've never seen as many and as huge as I am seeing here.

M5 has been in hibernation mode but not due to weather. I'll drive that thing in the weather, no problem. That's what the Pirelli winters are for. Like you've all said, the potholes are just unbearable. Seems this year more than ever. Been driving my jeep for a while now. Eats potholes for breakfast. Love this thing. Be safe. Winter's halfway over.

This year is ridiculous, and only getting worse after the storm tomorrow night. I might actually wait until May now to get my summer wheels back on.

Yes. It feels as if this winter is never going to end. After the weather clears in a month or so, hopefully they get the roads back in shape and we can drive again without clenching our ass cheeks all the time. I hope to be able to put the summers back on end of March(ish) Usually an easter time ritual.

I have been driving BMWs with expensive wheels for years in NJ (more or less the same pot hole situation), I can tell you that I have had 0 problems with my wheels. That's literally zero scratches, rashes, cracked, bent, nothing, nada, zip. I honestly think a lot of these "wheel" damages can be avoided and they happen because people drive irresponsibly without watching the road. I also think the tire&wheel insurance is the biggest rip off after AppleCare. Nothing will be better than paying attention and watching out, all people need is some common sense

I wouldn't put the summer wheels on until weather temperature is consistently above 60F. I'd also keep them in a warm and humid environment, definitely not street cold/dry.

I think you missed a couple spots when you had the black paint out. I see silver hardware and center caps!!
