BBS FI wheels
I've never had a high quality after market wheel and decided the M5 was worth the expense. Nate at IND supplied me with these and mounted the 275/35 and 305/30 Michelin PSS. They are a perfect fit, but the car is at stock height and I'm not sure if I will be able to lower it now. In the pictures I try to show the tire in the wheel well, you be the judge. For those who have purchased the Dinan wheels, do you really think the 285/30 front tire will fit, even at stock height? Do you know the Dinan offsets? The BBS FI are 26mm front and 28mm rear.
I thought the car handled nicely with the addition of the CP sway bars to the stock 19" rims with the 265/40 and 295/35 Michelin PSS tires. All of you who went with the 20" rims from the factory made the right choice. Although I have wider 20" tires, the turn in with the lower profile just seems more crisp. Haven't pushed it hard yet, but that's my first impression. Going from stock 19" wheels and tires to 20" wheels that are 1/2" wider with a larger tire as well, the fronts lost 4 pounds each and the rears 3.5 pounds each, as weighed on a bathroom scale. I'm very happy with the switch! |

Gorgeous Wheels man. They look great. I agree though, it would be nice with a little drop to close up that wheel gap.

I ordered my M5 with the largely unknown off road kit and am hoping the forged wheels will handle the large jumps better! Seriously, I just backed the car out of the garage having had it jacked up, and I think it is slightly higher from not settling after having the wheels at full droop. I do want to lower it, but wish there was a method of doing that which didn't lose suspension travel.

Go H&R. I have them. Look great. Ride fine.
Or KW sleeve kit or Dinan sleeve kit. The latter will cost $2200 installed. The springs are $1100 ish installed.

OP, If you're concerned about rubbing you won't have any issues with H&R even with those meaty PSS tires.
Keep in mind your wheels will camber in slightly with the drop. BTW, Those wheels look great but it needs BBS caps IMHO. |

Yeah, I'm hoping the camber change as the wheel travels up will suffice if I do drop it. I was debating on the caps, but after BBS told me their cap logo was held on with silicone and it would be an easy change, I opted to go with the BMW emblem. I told them I respected their product, but just wanted the integrated look with the wheels. For those who appreciate the BBS wheel, they will see that they are BBS if they look at the car closely.

Thanks, I had the IND stuff ordered before I got the car. Wanted the sakhir on the gill to match my interior. Added a little contrast to the Space Gray. The wheels came much later, and seeing yours helped my decision. I don't think we can get a 285/30 on the front though, and I was hoping for that.

I'm not unhappy with the stock blue, but if I were to change the color of the caliper it would be to sakhir orange to go with the gill accent, and carry into the interior. Maybe this winter.

Let me state my reasoning for the BMW caps on the BBS wheels. The car is a BMW, that is the main consideration in my mind. BBS makes a great product, people who know wheels know that. I know how good they are, I know they are on my car and I feel the performance enhancement they give the car. Why do I need to add their logo? Other people either like the look of the wheels or they don't, it doesn't matter who made them. I like them and want to integrate them into the overall appearance of the car, and feel the BMW logo accomplishes that. When the car is parked and people look at it, they either know what a forged BBS wheel is and appreciate them, or they don't and wouldn't even know what the BBS initials mean on the cap. Just as I didn't need to have the M5 emblem on the trunk of the car, so it is with the accessory logos. I know I'm driving an M5 and the performance it has, what is the need to tell others? It's fine with me if they think I'm driving a 528, I don't care. I have great respect for IND and the work they do, and even though I have their product on my car, I'm not going to place their decal in my window. This is just my attitude toward labeling everything, I don't mind if others do it, it's not my choice. |
