Transmission problems

I installed Dodson clutches(before I knew their bad rep!) car seems to ride fine but shop tried to do the relearn and keeps getting these faults:gearhift rod, position sensor of the gearshift rod, gear 5 or 7 is blocked.Opened up the transmission again everything looked fine mounted everything again, got the same fault codes. Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem?

This isn't the clutch - trans is busted. Search the threads... I tried to solve this for months and ended up getting another DCT.

No,apparently the internals of the transmission may fail with the high hp,unclear what will be a safe limit to take our car ,I have 776whp.

You can find them used for 3-4K plus install.

Clutch doesn't cause the rod 5-7 issue.... torque does!

Any particular reason to buy the whole transmission versus only the megatronic unit if the clutches are intact?

1. New mechatronic unit was the same price as a used trans
2. Issue wasn't with the mechatronic... its with the actual transmission

You can't just take a used mechatronic... car won't start (EWS/CAS alignment). With the new trans I had to use the original mechatronic unit. You can buy a NEW mechatronic and have it VIN coded by BMW but that doesn't solve anything.

Clutches can be swapped over obviously.

There are like another 8-9 on car-part.com Search for 2014 BMW M5 Transmission and select 7AT (DCT).

Even a 2016 with 5K miles...

All between 4-5K

On the dodson set we did(before we swapped to SSP) I would sometimes get this fault code if the car wasnt super hot before trying to do teach in. Eventually after I got it hot enough it would go through.

There are two reasons this code could come about:

1. As Wheelpro stated
2. My issue was when redlining 4th gear it would cut out and throw a transmission error

There appears to have been new revisions by BMW to this trans to fix issue....one member "Cocoa" got a trans replacement under warranty with a different part number B28007843840 ?

Clutch diagram....anyone can confirm the latest part number fixes(red) the issue VS the earlier part numbers? if we decide to change transmission

BMW dealer said they have seen this issue and it is caused by internal metal shavings due to wear accumulating in the magnet(?) inside transmission and thus requires a transmission change(interesting)

They don't have a bad rap any more than if you go to a GTR board and talk about SSP and Dodson having all the GTR records. Its simply a platform that in this case SSP is king of and has down pat.

Coming from GTR land where I got 30k miles out of Dodson clutches at 1400hp+ I'd have immediately went with them again. But as you see from reading here all the success is coming from SSP so on further inspection SSP is the choice for the M5. Hardly means dodson is bad, just not the best for this platform.
