DME Tuning vs Race Chip
I am thinking of installing the Eisenmann muffler & downpipe for my M5 and wanted to either use an Race chip or do a DME tune.
My friends are suggesting that I go with DME+JB4 which translate to stage 2 but for me I don't want to pay for 2 tunes. I just want my car to be in the safe zone without me worrying about parts breaking down. What I like about the RC is that I can remove it whenever I want which isn't the same with DME as I need to send my ECM to them Which one is better for people who have tested either one ?

This is strictly a matter of opinion in regards the so-called "safe zone". I would start with a piggy "chip" and see how you like that and go from there. I've had 2 different piggys on my car (Velos & Active) and have had zero issues. While the tune will provide more power, it comes with other risks to consider.

if you want big power, flash the car. End of story. Be prepared to spend money on supporting mods.
You want 590-620 wheel, get a piggy back and the only supporting mod you will need is tires. I have the Active Auto piggyback tune, never one issue. Cars runs strong. I wouldn't do jb4. |

power wise, roughly the same. (jb4+bcm with dp) (aa with dp) the difference is the AA tune cannot clear CEL for downpipes (catless) and the main difference is it runs 10x better day in and day out vs jb4, w/o any drivetrain malfunctions, overheating temp warnings etc. This is not just me talking BS (which i do for fun) i know several people down here in florida with jb4 and it's nothing but issues except for 1 or 2 cars. It's inconsistent at best |

What made you go with Velos? I've only seen very few people use this piggy. JB4 has always worked well on all of my cars, I just don't feel too comfortable with the M5 not being able to sense how much torque the car is putting out with the piggybacks.

I don't have any issues with JB4 / BCM but will agree with TrevorM3 that "most" of the guys running these in So. Florida have had issues. Furthermore, I routinely walk JB4 M5's. Like I said in my prior post, I like to plug it in and "forget" about it.

only drivetrain malfunction I ever had with the JB4 was when I turned the boost up too high on that very early stage 1 version, where putting at the revision numbers made my Jb4 boost to like +4 or 6lbs lol. And the only time it would DT malfunction was at 150+mph lol

I am thinking of going with bootmod3. As a person who doesn't drive the car hard most of the times would you recommend it to me for the occasional coupe of roll race that happens where I live?
