2016 m5 motor knock and voided warranty

I bought my car from a BMW dealer with 2000 miles on it. It currently has 15000 miles on it. It suddenly got a bad knocking sound so i brought it to the dealer. the dealer didn't like the way the ECU's looked so they won't warranty the car. they told me they wont warranty the motor or the ecu's, but everything else is still warrantied.

bmw told me that the ecu's had older data than the cars production date and that the ecu's were missing a heat sink. they said they seized the motor during a compression check. Yet when i towed the car back to my mechanic, the car runs and drives. BMW didn't provide me ANYTHING in writing about the car and no pics or proof of the problems with the ecu's. Something doesn't seem right and i dont want to get bullied by a big corporation. it seems like they looked at the ecu's and just pushed me out the door.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a way to escalate this within bmw? when i brought the car to bmw the car was back to factory.

I'm confused, did you flash your ECU or not?
If you have messed with the DME then then BMW has every right to void your warranty. You can take it to another dealer to see if they really did flag your vehicle though.

If you modified it any way since you've owned and they saw the modifications then you are on the hook. Now if you're car was modified before you bought it and you didn't know about it, then that's completely different and you would definitely have a case against BMW then.

OP - can you share the VIN? Curious to see if it has any history we may be able to check on.
