Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S - successor to the Pilot Super Sport

There was a time when MPSS tires were out of stock.........so BMW at one time had to resort to getting tires from Pirelli for the newer batches of M5 F10.

Now we know the answer........because Michelin was working on a successor

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S

These tires will be available starting 1st Quarter of 2017. In addition, the lineup for the launch will cover the tires that M5 F10 uses which are:
265/35 ZR20 95 (Y) XL - Front
295/30 ZR20 101 (Y) XL - Rear

Which fit 20 inch wheels/rims like 343M and 601M

As for 19 inch 345M, there is no size available for launch..........but maybe sometime in the future there might be.

Anyone know when these will be available? Putting my winters on tomorrow but will need new rubber on my summers when they go back on in April.

Still would like to see a comparison between these and the MPSS going out of production

Garage List
I spoke with a Michelin rep at the Detroit Auto Show and had a chance to look at the new tire.

A few things to note:
1) The Pilot Sport 4S is designed to deliver performance in between the Super Sport and the Sport Cup 2 while maintaining the wet performance of the Super Sport.
2) When you look at the Pilot Sport 4S side by side with the Sport Cup 2 (below) you will notice the tread looks very similar except it has one more groove for water displacement.
3) They will be on sale in US in March and 911 size fitment will be available at launch
4) They are working with Porsche on an N-rated variant for the 911 but it is not available at launch.
5) I asked which variant would be best for the 911 at launch (Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW, etc.) and he said the best performing variant will be the standard Michelin version. Michelin thinks most OEMs compromise their design.
6) The velvet texture finish for the Michelin Logo is quite striking.

I need new front tires and tried ordering these but they were not available so ended up going to MPSS. Hopefully they are available in 305/30-20 when i need new rears.
