NEW 2018 M5 just landed at my local dealer

Looks and feels almost the same as the F10, just a facelift really, quite disappointing although 4wd would be great

My M5 is in for service today and I was given a new 540 loaner. It has a much smaller, lighter, and nimble feel; very driveable and not "boaty" like the F10 535 & 550. While my F10 M5 isn't boaty, I definitely feel the size of the car. Can't wait to experience the smaller feel, combined with the ZF tranny and xdrive in the new F90 M5.

They are look similar with F10 because of same platform, but i am sure they drive completely different.

Its a basically a grand tourer just like any other 4x4 Luxury sedan.

It boils down to whether you want to buy a BMW, AUDI, Porsche or Merc.

Anybody know the DYNO curve on the new M5? I am hoping atleast most of the torque and HP is at low rpm.

i feel the same, car looks like a mild update.

e60 to f10 was actually a NEW car.

The only real plus on this new car is, CF roof, and interior. BMW again fails at putting a proper rear caliper. atrocious

I look forward to some real world reviews and wtf is up with those rear calipers LOL.

They are definitely a different shape which makes it hard to tell, not square anymore but stretched out a little. The water hoses look beefed up too.

Looks like there using proper clips now, and not the leaking once only clips

New M5

I like the look of the car. It's a natural progression from the previous model. Having said that - I will wait for the LCI/Comp package. I have a feeling we will see some significant changes as time goes on. Early adopters tend to get screwed.

Does anyone know why they put a connecting tube between the two feeds to the intercoolers?

Oh, and if they're going to the expense of installing a whole carbon fiber roof, why not make the antenna cover carbon also? Looks like a last minute after thought, like the iPad stuck in the dash!!!!

The intercoolers are indeed bigger. Probably won't fit in the F10 due to size or hose connection fitment.

Also the intercoolers are connected to help equalize the flow between them.

Besides my usual gripes about the engine being the same as the F10 M5 and the use of only a ZF8 Auto, I'll share some of my other critical opinions purely based on the aesthetics and design of the F90 compared to previous generation M5's.

First is overall body design dimensions and such. While I am glad that the F90 M5 (or rather G30 Chassis) did not increase in size much over the F10, I am still sorely disappointed with the lack of knee space in the back seat of the G30/F90. There's virtually no perceptible improvement in this area to a real person sitting back there despite BMW's announcement that there is an actual increase.

Secondly, I believe that there is just too much commonality with other M cars that usually made the M5 unique in its own design, with the F90 M5. Specifically I am talking about certain design cues such as the rear bumper reflectors and the side view mirrors. The rear bumper reflectors look like they were taken from both the X5M and the M2 with the vertical placement, while the side view mirrors not only look nearly identical in shape to the standard G30 shape, but they also borrowed the flare from E92 M3, F82 M4, and F85 X5M. I don't like this. Give the M5 its own look. I guess I should be thankful in other ways that the F90 M5 did not receive the front and rear bumper air curtain design from the F82 M4 and it got its own Side View Mirror design, unlike the M2.

The overall body design doesn't seem to flow as well as the F10 while also sharing too many big characteristics with the F10, if that makes any sense. It's as if they tried to make the F10 body design more edgy and futuristic with the F90. With the F10 M5, it's a design that you can clearly see is simple and flows. The F10 is not too busy with any off angles or creases. While the F90 M5 has multiple cue lines in the front bumper alone. And the rear quarter fender area has that crease line that flows from the side to the rear and makes it appear almost as if the ass is just hanging out there. The multiple crease lines that run down the side don't seem to work well on the F90 either, where as on the G30 it works a little better.

The interior is nice but doesn't feel like a huge upgrade like it was from the E39 M5 to the E60 M5 or the E60 M5 to the F10 M5. The main difference of the F90 M5 over the F10 M5 in terms of interior design is that it does exude that bit of a futuristic feel with its interior lighting schemes and a lot of piano black covering many of the button surfaces, however have fun trying to keep that dust free. The front seats in the F90 do look superior than the F10 though, and at least there are adjustable side bolsters this time!

And yes the continuation of the rear caliper design is stupid, but at least for the F90 they put a little ///M badge back there. Lol!

I know that I have said before that I might be interested in maybe getting an LCI F90 with the Comp Package in a few years, but now I doubt that might even happen. The more I look at it, the more I just don't like the car. Plus here in Southern California I just don't need AWD and I am not a drag racer, I'm not a 1/4 mile guy, nor do I enjoy random stop light races with Subaru WRX's. I enjoy long sweeping/tight turning canyon roads with the occasional fun day at my local racetrack. All regimes of driving that RWD high performance sedan is totally fine with.

It looks like the fenders are flared more properly compared to other G30s??....havent seen a G30 chassis up close yet.

One thing I don't like about the current F10 M5, fenders dont look flared out given its performance, compared to other F10s.

And BMW has fixed the broken-front-lip look I see

If I took out my contacts I could be forgiven for thinking it's an F10 M5.

Still it looks great, I love the 343M wheels over those wheels though.

I've driven the new 540 and it's a great car, so I'm sure this will be a great car too. I doubt it will be worse in any single way.
