Exhaust Cleaning Tips
Starting to get some carbon build up on my standard OEM stainless exhaust pipes. I wash with sponge&soap, but it does not remove all the deposits.
How are you guys cleaning? Polish or fine steel wool? Looking for ideas.... |

Standard car soap and water along with 000 steel wool will have them looking like new. Tip from my detailer.

Once cleaned up, apply something like Blue Magic metal polish to make subsequent cleaning a snap. I bet even a coat of wax would work.

I'm assuming the steel wool is a poor choice on the ZCP (Black) exhaust tips?

For chrome tips,I just spray carburetor cleaner on my tips and then polish them with a little bit of compound and they come out great. If you don't have carb cleaner you can use ether, paint thinner or any solvent to break down carbon and tar. Just don't use that stuff anywhere else on your car. For black tips, im not sure.

Tip #1: Make sure the exhaust is cold! I was watching a car wash attendant drying my car when he reached the exhaust (after driving full WOT). He was fine but will have a few blisters.

Once you get it clean use Opti coat to protect it. Then soap and water and a light wash will get it clean.
