I really love my M5 But just passed 2 years on my 3 year lease and trying to decide what to get next that I won't be disappointed with. Should I just buy at the end of my lease and wait til the next generation M5?
If I get a small coupe or something considered flashy like a 911, Cayman GT4, or Z06 I will also need a second car because of the nature of my job and don't really want 2 cars again. Maybe a X5M, M3CP (maybe), RS7, M6, AMG, RRSSVR? Thoughts? |

I don't think you are looking for P-car (the same as me except GT3 ) .... I would say M6 or AMG GTS
Or buy your M5 and wait for next gen ... otherwise you are going to miss S63tu + MDCT + Active M Differential

The question it's what are you looking for in your next car. I was really hoping to convince myself that I can drive two kids to school in 911 but reality settled in and coupes were out of the picture.

The next generation M5 is still about 2 years away from today.
Here's another idea. The next generation BMW 5-Series will be out in the fall of next year (around November/December is when deliveries should begin). Since you still have another year left on your lease and are looking at the end of your lease ending around the time the new G30 5-Series will begin production, maybe you could then order the BMW 550i (or 560i, whatever they call it). It won't be faster than the F10 M5, but it will be a nice leap in technology you could enjoy for a little while before the next generation M5 comes out in the summer/fall of 2017. Naturally you would have to buy the car instead of lease so you could get out of it easily. I completely understand about the whole no 2 car thing too. I am in the same situation since I live a Nomadic lifestyle (I have never owned a house) and I know the convenience of having only one car to deal with, or if one does not have a family, then a smaller sports car is a lot easier to live with too. I think, considering another car at this point in time is especially difficult. Even though no other car can beat an M5 in terms of all around package, there are others that do surpass it in certain areas. The new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is a performer and still has good room to haul stuff or people around in comfortably, although in terms of fit, finish, luxury, and style, it still lags far behind BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. The M6 Gran Coupe is another good choice, but with less utility. I personally have the feeling sometimes that going from an M5 to an M6 Coupe or an M6 Gran Coupe isn't really an upgrade, it's just a sidestep. Your going to get to the same feeling of performance more or less from the M6, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing. My motto has always been, if I'm going to get another car it's going to be something very different than what I've already had. Unless it's a 30 Jahr F10 M5 of course. If the size is not an issue (or the exhaust note), I think an F80 M3 is a good choice as well. Still plenty of room in the back seat and a decent sized trunk area. I do feel the interior design is getting a bit dated already though due to the elegance of the new Mercedes C-Class. Where as the F10 Interior is holding it's own quite nicely, until maybe the new Mercedes E-Class comes out next year, but we'll see. Seriously, how about the new Merc C63 AMG-S. I've seen one in person and sat in one and was highly impressed. Seriously almost on par with an M5 in the interior department. Plus these new generation Turbo Mercedes engines sound great from the factory and are far easier to tune than BMW engines. Here's a recent article on the new C63 AMG Coupe. http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...e-first-drive/ You could always wait for the next generation E63 AMG as well, which will be out before the next generation M5. I think a lot of people who are M5 enthusiasts are looking forward to the next E63. If the new C63 is any indication, I believe Mercedes is heading the right direction with it's exterior and interior designs and powerful Turbo Engines. The AMG_GT is one of the best handling cars Randy Pobst has ever driven, and the new C63 has beaten out BMW and Audi cars in comparative tests on track and street. There is no doubt however that the next M5 will be lighter than the next E63, but Mercedes has somehow been able to beat the lighter and more nimble F80 M3 with their new C63 and their AMG-GT car out handles most other sports cars in its class as well. Interesting times lay ahead for us, but I really do think the next E63 is going to be a giant leap from the previous generation E63 and will really give the next M5 some competition. Or how about a Dodge Charger Hellcat and have constant back pain from poorly designed ergonomic seats. Lol! I highly recommend a good look at the F85 X5M and F86 X6M. Both cars are nicely luxurious with tons of space and utility, and the X6M has even posted a faster lap time than an M4. I never thought I'd ever think a Performance SUV would be a good idea, but BMW has significantly improved upon the 1st generation X5M/X6M from the lessons it learned in the past. Although they weigh north of 5,000lbs each, they really do handle like sports cars. It's magic. Anything smaller, 911, Z06, GT4, you are a right, you will need a second car if you need to transport people or provisions. Now if Porsche would just come out with a 4-door car without a fastback design, they could make a hell of a lot more money.

power is good but you can feel the 100 HP different compare to S63tu... I drove it in race mode and I got lots of fishtailing which was fun BUT Overall not even close to M5 Oh the sound was amazing but I'm a little bias here since I love AMG sound

I'm in a similar situation but also realized that I need an AWD car to replace the M5 (snow + house at top of hill did not work well even with dedicated snow tires).
I'm considering an X5M. I am also going to test drive a S8 and for something different a Tesla P85D (probably won't be the winner). I thought about a new 750 but got a current 750i as a loaner and thought it was too staid. I'll probably test the E63S but really ended hating the ML63 I had a couple of years ago (both the dealership and car experiences). I'm not a fan of the Panamera even though it drives like a much smaller car. At least I get to enjoy the M5 for another year, which says a lot since I usually don't make it to the end of a lease. |

If you are looking for a 4 door sports saloon, there is no upgrade from M5. You can side step into a E63 AMG or a S63/65 AMG or Audi S8.
You can switch from a super sedan to a super SUV - Cayenne, X5, GL63 Range Rover Sport. If it was not for the crappy tech in RRS, it would be my top choice in SUVs. Although I hear that 2017 model year is getting a fully replaced tech. That should be interesting. Or you can go extreme and get 911 Turbo etc. Really depends on what are you looking for...

But I would still stick with your M5. At least for one more year. By then the new Panny will be out, the new E-Class will be out, and we may even have a preview of the new 5 series. Hard to beat M5 as a 4 seater 4 door car right now.

Thanks for all of the input. No kids but do need 4 useable seats sometimes (are the rear seats useable for short trips in an M6?)so would definitely have to get another car if I go the coupe route and I tend to move every couple of years for work and prefer the city so parking is a PITA already but may just have to work it out.
I have never had a AMG but like the looks same with the RS7 which I think is due a refresh soon? I think I would miss the power and luxury of I go M3. I have had 2 RRSSC and liked them with the exceptions already mentioned. Whatever I get I would like to keep until the next gen M5 LCI (CP If not available at launch) Leaning toward X5or6 M right now I think but gonna go do some test driving since I haven't tested anything else since I got my M5 |

the new e-class looks very promising. I like the design of the newer generation mb more than the beamers. Bmw needs to step their game up in terms of interior and exterior design.

My thought is that in late 2016, there will be some leftover 2016 M6GC or X6M's where a decent deal can be had. Do you know if they offer a lease pull-ahead on M cars? |

I didn't need four doors at all, but a rear seat is needed from time to time. My speed fix is solved with the GT3 which will be a long term keeper, and the M4 will work until the next GEN M5, RS7, ⎌and Panamera hits the street. Leaning towards the Panamera GT3 lovely interiors and road handling. Good luck. |

New panamera is to be presented early next year. If you place the order right away, delivery could be around April (my guess). that is good 6 months out, so you would be able to terminate your M5 lease without huge penalties.

I am in the same situation. I will be selling my M5 next week. Have my heart set on a 991 turbo S. I drive by myself most of the time and drive a van when I take the family out.
I am wondering if I am making the right choice. |

If you don't need four seats, a Turbo S is an amazing car. I have a 991 Turbo and love driving it. However, it's hard to carry much more than a couple of small bags and the back seats are only suitable for small kids.
