Best brake pads available

Hello allo,

I have a BMW F10 M5, which has been tuned to 900+BHP.

Having spoken to ML Performance, they recommend the Pain RSL29 brake pads, as they have superior stopping power to other brands such as EBC Bluestuff.

However, the RSL29s are road illegal. I have been informed that many drivers still use the RSL29 pads with no issues, other than it takes time for them to heat up to optimum working temperatures.

Any advice on the best brake pads available?

What effects should I expect from the RSL29 before heating up?

Not a great expert on brake pads for tuned M's, some are great on the track but the pay off can be sluggishness on public roads so your best bet is to get a set with a good compromise.
Put some pics of the car on so we can see what you have and maybe some of our friends over the pond can help with that.

Hi.

You are correct in that the RSL29's are technically not road legal. However, this is because they are too good. To maintain the road legal standards in the UK pads have to be within a small percentage of the friction coefficient of the OEM pads, which is something proper performance pads exceed.

I use RSL29 pads and they work absolutely fine when stone cold. You wouldn't know they are not OEM pads, it's just they work at their very best when they are hotter.

They have similar dust levels to OEM, and if not driven on hard for a while on the road they can squeal a bit at low speeds, but then if you give them a hammering, and get them hot, they will then stay quiet again for a good few hundred miles.

Brake fluid- I’ve used Castrol React SRF in my high horse power and track cars. Look into that, they have high boiling points for both dry and wet.

Castrol SRF is the best, but is very expensive. Motul RBF600 or 660 is very good stuff and reasonably priced.

Any advice on the best engine oil?

At the moment I am using castor 5W-30 fully synthetic.
