M5's Cruise Control ~ It's Quite Smart!

Had the cruise control set today on my evening commute and just so happened that I did a down shift,..thinking that the cruise control would 'disengage, etc.' and I'd have to 'reset' it. But wait,...it didn't. The cruise speed remained as previously set,..though now in a lower gear! I was thinking,...hmm, shouldn't the cruise control had turned off? So, I repeated this again,..this time, up-shifting to 6th gear. Mind you, I'm simply doing a gear change "Lift, Clutch,...Gear Change,...and roll on the throttle. That said, after doing a down shift,...again, I confirmed that the cruise 1) doesn't turn off,...nor do the revs go ballistic to the Red Line. The car knows that one is simply changing gears,...and the cruise continues as previously set.

Quite smart if you ask me!

Note: This is most likely covered in the manual somewhere! Cool.

PS: I wonder if this is the same for DCT tranny cars,...in manual mode?

My M4 does the same thing. I thought it was pretty cool too.

Yes it is the same in DCT manual mode. I tried it out of curiosity the first day with my car

How about going down a steep grade with cruise control set and the car maintains its speed....
