I drive on New England roads, which are some of the worst roads in the country. I hear the clunk sound every time I go over ANY "normal size" bump (or pothole). It seems like I hear the sound going over just about every bump in the road. It's much worse at lower speeds versus on the highway.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing while driving over bumps, or do I have another problem with the car that I should have the dealer inspect?

Thanks.
This is exactly what I experience in my car EVERY DAY!!!!
Soooooooooooo annoying.

How much does H&R cost?

If it's not too much, then I may spend the money just so I don't have to wait any longer for BMW to correct this problem.

Paid I think $320 or so for springs. My local shop quoted about $800 for install and $125 for alignment.

How's the ride quality with your new springs? Is it stiffer than the stock springs, the same, or a soft ride? Did you install H&R?

Thanks.

Picked up my car 3 weeks ago with 600km on the clock now. Experienced the clunk sound, only at speed bump (actually when going down the bump not slowly enough). Will talk to the dealer.

There are many other threads in the forum about H&R. Most are positive feedback that ride quality is very close to original, a tiny bit stiffer at most. But some said the clunk sound was still there after installing the lowering springs.

Now I'm confused

-----------------------------------

Update : Just talked to the dealer. They are aware of the issue, 'cos a lot of other M5 owners before me reported it, but there is no timeline yet as to when the new parts will be available.

AND continue production without fixing. Baffling.

Also, to be clear: H&R springs do not fix the clunk sound. My SA tells me there was a service bulletin for F10s prior to 2012 that needed to have the entire rear shocks replaced...sounds like that's what we need as well.

My SA says the same. There may not be a resolution to this any time soon.

Maybe I'll opt for a KW V3 setup instead of H&R springs; not ideal considering the loss of EDC, but I recall hearing that there's no clunking at all with that setup.

Can someone with KWs comment???

I guess I've been extremely lucky. I've got over 5,500 miles on my F10 M5 and I still don't know what this clunking you all are referring to is. Hoping that BMW fixes this without further delay though.

Lets do a comparison next time we meet. Super easy to reproduce. Would be quite interesting if you don't have it.

I'm in the same boat. KW makes killer stuff. There is a board member from the east coast who did this and his thunk is now completely gone.

I don't know if I have it. But I do hear something, but not a loud thumping sound. Mine sound like something is moving in the trunk. Please let me know when is the next meet so we can compare.

Curious, are people taking more recent deliveries still experiencing the clunk from the rear springs? I know the "recall" was pushed to March for the new spring replacements, but does that mean they are producing the M5 with the same springs that causes issues which they know they will have to replace?
