Turbo lag on F10 M5?

I've owned this '13 CPO F10 M5 since 1/31 and have noticed a bit of turbo lag, even in the most aggressive settings. Stand on the accelerator coming out of a turn, count a few Mississippi's and then it kicks in like a VTEC on steroids. Any way to narrow or eliminate the tiny gap in responsiveness? A JB4 tune might do it, not sure. The delta is faintly reminiscent of my previous '14 M235i.

Any thoughts? Remedies?

Yes it's there
But you kinda get used to it and learn how to enjoy it too
Let me put it this way
I wouldn'tsay LAG but will take a jiffy to mount full power like 600 but you have probably 400 ponies or so at your disposal and 350 torque too if you know what I mean

Sure, sure. At the end of the day, if it's reliable then I can correct for it and just get on it earlier in the turn. Need to know post-apex that the turbo is paying attention, though.

If you live next to red-line in S3/Sport+ and MDM, you won't feel that lag...
That's the way I drive my car BTW

Are you in D3/S3 and Sport Plus when feeling that? I feel it's fairly responsive. Only feel that in comfort mode and D1

The problem isn't turbo lag

Your problem isn't turbo lag per se....if you stand on the throttle what you effectively do by suddenly opening the inlet venturis is drop the pressure and flow velocity within the inlet tract.....even a non-turbo engine will choke momentarily unless you're at the very top of its rev range. What you need to do is to roll open the throttle more gradually. Because pressure and velocity don't drop so precipitously the car accelerates immediately, revs climb and you actually accelerate harder than if you dump the throttle to immediately wide open.

Before my M5 I had an M135i and neither car suffered from turbo lag. Both responded instantaneously to increased throttle as long as the throttle wasn't moved instantaneously from say quarter or half to full open. With true turbo lag the car takes a second or so to respond to any increased throttle opening, which doesn't happen with these M cars, at least not with mine.

Take it out of D1, D2 will provide marked improvement in response.

SteveC offers the best advice here.

As far as something that you can actually do to remove or reduce turbo lag even more, installing catless downpipes will help tremendously. The day that I installed mine I noticed a large increase in engine and turbo responsiveness. However, if you do this you will have to solve the CEL in some way, of which there are a few options.

One option was the use of tbe bms Cann tool which is no longer available. A true tune can solve the cel and there seem to be many choices out there for this.

Yeah, true. I drive the car a lot more in sequential mode, which is awesome. Also, DCT now seems to downshift a lot more readily....even in D1 it downshifts when I expect it to. I've not changed anything but the car seems to have lost its reticence to downshift from 7th. I don't recall giving gas and getting no response, as used to happen when the car was new. Now its just an absolute joy to drive
