Can this be fixed

I honestly have no clue how this happened. I might have used some interior cleaning towel.
This is a lease car and i was wondering if this could be fixed.

Wow someone used something very strong or acidic.
That can't be fixed. Order new parts shouldn't be too hard to install.

It cannot be armor all. I used it on my sold M5 and it was no problem at all.

You think air freshener would do this?

Someone or some thing puke back there?

ArmorAll (whose products should never be used in a BMW interior, especially an M5; not even in an "emergency") will not cause damage like that.

Something acidic came into contact with that area.

Can be fixed, just need to replace the Air Vent Assembly (Less than $100), plus replacing the rear climate control (it's cheaper to do a core exchange than the button repair kit, though it will still be close to $800 unless you find one on eBay).

It is probably air freshener liquid. I had that the liquid in the air freshener spilled in my Honda Odyssey and caused similar peeling.

What happened to the temperature knob? I see it's broken. Definitely looks like something acidic.

That's definitely possible. Most generic Clip-on and hanging air fresheners use solvents to release the fragrance. If they spill on to soft touch trim coatings, it will eat it just as shown.

I remember spraying some air freshener in the back & I must have sprayed it on the console

That's the culprit. Surely can't be those Armour-All wipes.

Not to be "that guy", add on for the damaged buttons and rotary knob). A repair kit for the buttons and and knob exists, but it's way over priced as it comes in a fancy case with tools. Replacing the entire unit with a core exchange is cheaper regardless if this is a DIY or dealer job.

OP definitely has my empathy as we all make mistakes. Let this be a lesson for anyone who stumbles across this post, if the Air Freshener is the culprit and contained 2-Butoxyethanol, pain will be felt.

Take it apart get a sander and sand it down then paint it flat black very easy to fix your just taking top layer off. It will be time consuming but can be done

Or u can just spend $135 from turner call it a day.
