That's what I was thinking too. It would look a lot nicer inside -- although it looks plenty nice as it is -- with carbon on the center console.

These are only renderings and not pics of a finished car. I think they just grabbed the first interior pic they had lying around.

SO with AW, IB, BS, SG looks just stunning. I already know SO interior will be in my order when i spec out next year.

I can't stomach exterior SO because i think it is out there.

back on topic: I guess you can get away with money grab with few mods in japan. that kind of BS will not work in the states

Amongst automotive purists in Japan, their preference is for European vehicles to be ideally in the same configuration as found in a given car's respective country of origin (i.e. RHD for an Aston Martin, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce or Bentley, but LHD for a Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc.).

However, the reality is that lower end BMWs (i.e. 3er and 5er), and lower end Mercedes-Benzes (i.e. C-Class, E-Class) get spec'd as RHD by the official Japanese Importing arms (BMW Japan & Mercedes-Benz Japan, etc.). However, the more prestigious high-end variants (i.e. S-Class, CL-Class, AMG, M) tend to be configured in more 'exotic'/'authentic' LHD form. In the case of Porsche, the client can order a given model in RHD or LHD. I've seen both LHD and RHD Cayennes, Boxsters and Caymans in Japan. Typically, the Panameras and Turbos I've seen have been LHD.

Even if I was rich, I'd think twice before I spend $200K on M5. Nothing really special about this car except few bits that you can add after you get your normal M5. Well, clearly, there's a market for it...

You sir know your stuff right! another point is, some of the very high-end cars in Japan don't even come in RHD because of such a small volume it fills.(such as 911 GT3) Also if you drive very low end LHD cars such as 320i you're usually seen as poser.

Such low end LHD cars probably also have less prestige because they're most likely from the grey market (i.e. meaning they didn't come to Japan through official manufacturer channels -- e.g. the official importer).

My visitor over the weekend from Taiwan paid $120k for his 535i that doesn't even have m-sport pack. Oh, and that had to be a cash deal. Consider yourselves very lucky to be able to buy cars and live in USA.

1. I call b.s. if it's a Japanese limited edition, why is he steering wheel on the left side?

2. I already have a very limited edition m5. there's only 1 of them on fact. it's called, "my car."

In Japan the steering wheel can be on either side - to make something more elite the handle is sometimes on the left.

This is from BMW Japan - came right off their homepage.

I'm from Japan and got the mailer yesterday about this car.

I concur, a lot of the other countries only have a finance "option". And do not have lease programs. They'd probably laugh at a person if they asked what an est. monthly lease payment would be.

realize that a chunk of the markup is to pay the photo shoot team who did this job. if they shot my car, it could go for at least $150k U.S.D.

Very true regarding the leasing theory of yours. Well, in my country when u can drive such an expensive car u dont lease it. Its either u take it or leave it. Ppl will laugh at you if u lease a car here in Malaysia. In fact, our car price is much expensive than Japan. Talk bout USA.
