OEM Competition Exhaust Modification

Hey guys im looking to make the oem exhaust louder on low rpm's. I noticed that the exhaust has flaps, if i zip tie the flaps open at all times will i get a cel? I seen a tread about this in the 6 series forum. But i wanted to see if any M owners have done it too? Thanks

I recommend the Exhaust Meister this way you can control when you want the flaps open. A lot of forum members have done it.

You will need three things:
1. Uncoated aluminum wire
2. Wire cutters
3. A 1/2 inch square by 1 foot long piece of wood

It's then a fairly easy process to wire open the valves:
1. Jack up the car to give yourself some more room to work. I would recommend giving the muffler/exhaust system a good rinsing before crawling under the car to limit the amount of sand/gravel that drops in your face since you'll be right under the muffler while you work.
2. Once under the car, manually open the valve and insert the piece of wood up the outboard tailpipe to hold the valve open.
3. Cut a length of wire about 8 inches long.
4. Fasten one end of the wire to the bracket that mounts the valve actuator to the exhaust system.
5. Wrap the wire around the joint in the valve control arm a few times and then fasten the other end around the valve actuator bracket.
6. Remove the piece of wood from the exhaust pipe and ensure the valve remains open.

Below is a repost of a picture that member ColdList took of the valve wired open.

No impact on performance. Just a little louder exhaust sound.

You spent $100K+ on the car. The exhaustmeister is under $200. Why would you spend the time wiring these valves open?

For some the exhaustmeister is a great solution to be able to open and close the valves as desired. I prefer having the valves open 100% of the time, so why buy a device for $200 to achieve a result I can get with $1 worth of wire? In addition, it takes less than 5 minutes per side to wire the valves open which is less time that it takes (so I've read) to pull the trim panels in the trunk to install the exhaustmeister. It's a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

I can assure you that it took you longer to do your wire fix than it took me to install the Exhaustmeister. I can't justify jury rigging a car at this level. I guess I just prefer finesse over force.

Maybe the reason he can afford a 100k car is because he's smart and spends money only where needed.

SECONDED, why wast the money, when the car gets part exchanged/sold, wire cutters and job done.

I "force" needed just common sense and 10 minutes.

Garage List
Get these http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...m5-centerpipes

A big thanks to stealth pilot for his center pipes( resonator delete)! I just had his old centerpipes installed on my cp. I think it's a perfect tone, not crazy loud but packs a punch, no cel and no drone.
