How will you rank the 2014 package/options?
Hi all,
Just want to know your opinion on the "must haves" and "nice to haves". The configuration is for Canadian, but still would like to know what all of you will choose. so far I'm ranking: Premium pack > Individual Paint > Individual leather > full leather > B&O > individual trim > Competition Pack > Ceramic Brake > Rear Entertainment > Nightvision The costs for some of the key options are: Premium Pack (includes LED headlights) $10500 Ceramic Brake $6500 B&O $4900 Competition Pack $6500 How will you guys rank these? |

so I'm hearing B&O is not worth the $$?
I've not tried it personally, but do think that the interior road noise of M5 will interference with B&O quality music, unless I'm listening to B&O while parked.. How good is the standard HK? |

We all love the quality and output of the standard system, if you like subs then add them. Just because it cost more doesn't mean its always much better...... My dad has the B&O.... He loves it, I told him to get it as he listens to oldies. Old country sounds good on B&O but thats not what my wife likes shes a dixie chick.... Loud! If your over 50 you probably want B&O... My opinion: - if you listen to music frequently and care about sound quality - if you don't want to hack up the car with an aftermarket system = You should buy the B&O. It's quite good and bass response is tremendously better than standard HK. Could you do better for $5k with aftermarket gear? Absolutely. To me, the standard system was unacceptable. I think the B&O is pretty darn good. I would buy again. Oh, and I don't listen to oldies. I also agree that the E race is the far better choice if you only have one $3700 check to write

The B&O System is really outstanding but it is not for everybody. For those who are musically deaf, the ordinary speakers should be more than good enough. I myself listen to a wide range of music from rock to classical (I am only 31 yrs. old) and my home sound system is only the best that money can buy. If you can afford it and not musically deaf then get the B&O otherwise just go with what the others who are musically challenged are advocating, skip the B&O and go for what comes with the base car -- should be sufficient especially if you are only listening to loud metal rock (BTW I do like some metal but not all).

I'm also a big fan of B&O. Sounds fantastic compared with base system.
I listen to a wide variety of music and its all good on B&O. Not just modern music but classics too. I was listening to the Rains of Castermere performed by The Evolved and it sounded haunting. Tywin Lannister would have been impressed.

Didn't have it on my first M5, but have it on my second, can't believe the difference, definitely worth it for me. I listen to a huge variety from House to Metal/Alternative, Rap, Hip Hop, Country and Jazz.

the under 50s disagree.
music on ipod-> cypress hill, beastie boys, u2, coldplay, guetta, korn. 3700 is not cheap, but reasonable for a good quality sound system. this system sounds much better than the bose that porsche charges for 2k. is it twice as good to justify 3700? tough to say. there are a gazillion threads on this. anything aftermarket will easily cost 6k+ if you want a clean install with high end audio eq. i'd rank it probably where OP put it

Interesting Discussion -- My ranking is:
Executive package (For HUD and CA primarily) Drivers Assistance (the cameras are awesome, love them on my '13 335) 20" Wheels LED lights B&O --------- competition package ceramic brakes My current cut line just squeezes the B&O in... but this discussion has me second guessing that cost. The simple H/K system in my three series is loud enough and good enough for car music listening, and TBH I listen to audiobooks, talk radio or sirius most of the time Im in a car. If Im not using a high end source, isn't it kind of wasted? Besides, I think I would like to enjoy the sound of the engine more than anything else on a lot of drives. Thoughts?

I'm happy I have mine. I was thinking the same thing last year on whether or not to get it, going back and forth. I was usually listening to talk radio anyway. On the last day I change my mind, called the dealer and had to put in.
I don't listen to talk radio anymore. turns out that' worth $3700 to me.

The more I listen to the B&O, the more I am glad I got it. The premium sound system in my wife's X5 is nice but not nearly as good. The old system in my 535 is a transistor radio by comparison.
I would rank it as follows: Premium Package, Full Leather, 20" wheels, B&O, Driver Assist, Competition, Individual Color. |

I wouldn't order a M5 LCI without ceramic brakes. I just drove them at COTA and they are simply incredible. All those who say the only difference is brake fade are flat out wrong. I was a naysayer too, so I wasn't expecting to care for them. On track it's just silly how amazing they are. Even on normal roads, they are so silky smooth, crisp and linear. Kudos to BMW for an amazing CCB product
Exec pkg > CCB > perf pkg (with 343 wheels) > full leather > B&O

2014 specs
Just ordered my 2014 M5 today. For me biggest priority was the competition pack incl the new wheels. After a lot of debate I opted not to take the ceramic brakes. Hope it's the right decision !

After some more time with the LCI, has anyone's thoughts changed? I'm getting ready to place my order and still wrestling with the build. My waiting has cost me an extra 2k with the price increase.
Right now I'm thinking: Must haves: exec, LED and 20's either with comp pack or stand alone Probably: comp pack with 601's. There are a ton of M5's so at least something to set it apart. Not likely to make the cut: B&O, driver's assistance, full merino. Not a chance: night vision, rear seat entertainment. I could drop the comp pack and replace it with B&O and DA, or just save the 6k. But I really like the stance of the comp pack and the new wheels. And prefer not to do too much aftermarket stuff. And lastly either alpine white with black interior/aluminum trace. Or black exterior with silverstone and piano black. Leaning towards white at this point since I see a ton of black ones. Really wish they had a decent silver exterior color. |

My two cents-I love music, have high end music system in my house which I play drums to, but when I get in the M6,the pure sound of the motor makes me TURN down the sound system and that is far more enjoyable than any high end option.
Thanks, Bill |

Could not imagine not getting B&O. Bought the M6 cab for my wife without B&O as it was a stock car and thought I would not miss it. I was wrong. :-(
