Engine cranks but won't start. Looking for some insights.
Hey, well I've got my first issue in 20,000 miles of ownership. Overall, I'm really happy with reliability so far.
Today as I was backing out of a parking spot the motor suddenly stalls. I'm like err well, ok let's restart it. It just cranks. Engine turns no problem. But no ignition. No hiccup. Previously there were no signs of problems on the road. Best guess at the moment is the fuel pump is out. Once the motor stalled and I tried to restart it the engine light came on. I didn't have an obd reader to get the codes right then. I was a little low on fuel but not enough to trigger a fuel light. It's been towed to BMW of Bellevue and I'm scheduled for diagnostics. I'd appreciate any suggestions and maybe avoid a misdiagnosis. |

Followup... Alright, good guess on the fuel issue. They checked all the fuel pumps. It's not the high pressure fuel pump which apparently is a $4,000 repair.
Looks like the sending unit in the tank is out. Quoted $1,299 parts and labor at the dealership. |
