Rod knock issues 'fixed' post-LCI (2014+)?

Hi all,

I've heard a few people say that the terrifying rod bearing issue (leading to rod knock and engine failure) was 'fixed' (or isn't as likely) on LCI cars, post-2014. Apparently there was a 'technical update' with the LCI cars.

Anyone else heard this? It doesn't seem to make sense to me, unless BMW used different bearings in LCI cars or something?

It's just hearsay, the only difference between lci and pre lci are the injectors, EU6 ones on lci have a different spray pattern and for competition ones too which have 15 hp more, BMW rod bearings are the same on all models but their metallic content is unknown.
Rod bearing failure is sporadic on both lci and pre lci, most at risk are ex lease cars which didn't have yearly oil changes earlier on and gradual warm up's.
