For those who upgraded the clutch, did you upgrade the billet basket too?

Hi guys!

For those who upgraded the clutch, did you upgrade the billet basket too?

My goal is about 750whp, not sure if its risky not changing the basket... the basket is quite expensive though :/

Upgrading the basket offers no benefits to actually gaining reliability of the transmission system. What it does do however is give you a bit more of an edge when minimizing the losses to engine horsepower that are robbed by certain drivetrain components. In other words you will gain a bit more because of less rotational inertia from having a lighter basket. But we are only talking a few horsepower here. So unless you are building a car for an ultra competitive event, the upgraded baskets are a bit of a snakeoil solution to a problem you never really needed to fix anyway.

thanks for your expert advise! it looks like you know a lot about these cars! do you think putting stage1 pure turbo, beside changing the clutch, what other mods would be required? i have r888r tires, meth/flash/jb4+bcm/catless downpipe/exhaust/intake

Don't try to launch the car too much. This isn't a Porsche Turbo S. The diff mount is probably the next week point after the clutches. But as long as you don't launch the car, the stock diff mount won't be an issue. The axles are next weak point after that, but again not an issue if you don't launch the car. If you want to a be a 0-60 hero better to go out and get a used Audi RS7 or a new F90 M5. Ripping the car from stop lights and stop signs is what puts the most wear and tear on these cars in everyday normal accessible driving situations. Even bone stock, the M5 makes too much torque for that kind of daily abuse.

Oh and in my opinion Pure Stage 1's are a waste of money. They are way overpriced for what you gain, only about 30-40hp. Better to go with a moderate tune and just stick with stock turbos. And as long as you give the car time to cool down properly after hard driving the stock turbos will last a very long time.
