Winter Tire Size Question - On stock 19s

Hi,

So i am looking to purchase winter tires. And tirerack suggests that for my 19" stock f10 m5 wheels, the correct size is 255 40 19.
My question is...how set in stone is this?
Would i have any issues with fitment or rubbing with this size perhaps? 255/50R19? Will 50 instead of 40 be too large and cause rubbing or other issues?
Any experienced answer is much appreciated.

Thanks guys.

255 40 19 is ideal setup. 50 profile is too tall, will rub and look ridiculous. if you have 345m 19" wheels you have the option of running staggered size snows but i had great success with 255/40/19 all around.

Thanks. But if we look at the way the height ratio is calculated...its always based on the width first. So rear stock are 295 35 19. That 35 is based on the 295 in terms of height size. So im thinking perhaps a 50 based on 255 wont be that tall to rub? Thoughts?

295/30 is 26.1 in tall. 255/50 is 29 inches tall. you'd be almost 3 inches taller in the rear.

265/35 in the front is 26.3 in tall. 255/40 is 29 inches tall. you'd be almost 3 inches taller in the front.

trust me it doesn't work. you either gotta go oem sizes staggered or run 255/40 squared.

2014 535i XDrive M Sport winter set up

i have a 19'' staggered 345M set up and i am running Bridgestone Blizzak's 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 in the rear. I also have 12mm spacers in the rear which bumps out the backs a little for a more aggressive look. No rubbing at all and the slightly taller sidewall fills in the fender gap nicely since I am on stock suspension. The ride is very smooth and the handling in great too. Nice to have a little more sidewall with the crapy winter pot hole covered roads we get during the long cold winters.
