Well done dapple,
Could i ask though, if the only mod you made, was to remove the packing ?. The main reason to open up the silencers, is to cover the holes in the baffles, either partly, or altogether, as this is what alters the sound completely. If you covered half of the holes, it would sound loud, but not as loud, as it would, if you covered all the holes, if you see what i mean ?, regards, SIMON.

f10 M5 exhaust modification

Any updates on this thread? Has anybody opened up his exhaust, removed the sound deadening material, and either covered the perforations or replaced the segment with a nonperforated Y tube? Please share your experience.
Am thinking of having a local exhaust shop do this.

This may be a solution for me as well. I had a friend create a custom exhaust, and we cut out the OEM mufflers. My current solution sounds Awesome. Like a REAL M CAR. however, I am not liking the drone inside the cabin at load - 1600-2000 RPM. Especially in 6th-7th gear. I find myself driving in 6th gear when the car really wants 7th just to keep car out of that RPM range.

I will make a thread later on to combat this. If anyone has some suggestions please advise. Otherwise I am thinking about putting my OEM mufflers back.

Any update on this mod?

I'm quite interested in doing it myself, as I'm sure others are also interested.

Are you going with dp's? If so, get E-sport and don't look back! They are a bit pricey but the fitment, quality, and sound are 9.5 of 10. If not going dp's, I would suggest AWE Touring. Also good quality and sound at a lower pricepoint.

I had muffler deletes and sold them because of the drone in the cruising range 1600-2000 rpm. I cant tell you how much a difference the esport and dp's made, both powerwise and soundwise. And now with bootmod3 OTS tune, the exhaust is even more aggressive (without drone). Nice combo all around.
