20" PROS:
  • Lighter (for the same wheel in 21")
  • More selection in wheel styles
  • More selection in sizes (widths and offsets)
  • More selection in tires
  • Rides more cush/comfy

21" PROS:
  • Fills up the wheel wells nicely! (Looks better)
  • Can have a step-lip without making the wheel look small

Basically, 20" CONS = opposite of 21" PROS, and 21" CONS = opposite of 20" PROS.

What really made me decide on 20" was the tire sizes. I think the sidewalls for the 21" rims are too small and will bend the wheel. Ride will be more harsh also. Also the 305/25/21 MPSS are discontinued and the 295/25/21 are back-ordered.

There is a great selection of 21" wheels on the market. I have ADV1s and run 9.5 and 10.5 with 265/30/21 and 305/25/21 MPSS. The sidewalls are definitely smaller than 20" wheels/tires, but ADV1 makes very strong wheels so I have not experienced any bends. Although, admittedly, the ride is a little harsher than 20" and I would only track with my stock 20" wheels/tires. If you've come from a lowered car, then you are already accustomed to the harsher ride and so the effects of 21" wheels are negligible. I don't think you can go wrong with either 20" or 21"

Where are you getting your tires from?

21" also cost a bit more (as do the tires) and the ride is a bit more harsh. Also less forgiving when it comes to potholes etc and curb rash given the lower profile tire. I have 21's and no issues.

If you ever have to have them worked on at a general tire/wheel place, I've noticed in my area that a lot of placed either won't work on anything larger than a 20" or there is an additional fee. Consider this as well.

Literally went to 21's today from my 601's. There is definitely more NVH transmitted through the steering wheel.

I find myself far more conscious of building speed in case an road hazard shows itself and I have no way of avoiding it.

As most of us are, I am always scanning the road ahead for wheel obstacles so its really not a big deal.

Regarding cosemtics, 21's are hands down the way to go, especially in a 3pc. or lipped wheel. They fill the wheel well and look factory. I will not go back down to 20's until the car is prepped for sale.
