Powder Coating Wheels (repair question)
2 week old M5 with factory 343 black matte wheels. Got a nail - brought to NTB for repair. They blew up my tire while trying to repair it and scraped my rim while putting it back on.
They are offering to have a service come and repair the wheel. I assume they will sand the whole wheel and powder coat it. Should I be ok with this or the wheel won't look the same as the original? Should I be demanding a new rim? |

Why don't they just repair the spot that is damaged? I don't think they need to resand and recoat the entire wheel. It might look a different shade if they do that.

I'm not familiar with the process... You could be right. However on the other hand, if they repair only the spot - I assume the repair will be visible.

I'd want the wheel painted not powder coated IIRC the OEM finish is painted, every powder coated wheel I see has that dimpled/orange peel look to it.

In my experience with the same situation, it never looks the same and that is only due to the repair shop either not being experienced or just doing a shitty job. I personally would take my wheel to the dealer and ask them to repair and bill NTB. I have had a bad experience with these repair shops anytime my wheels were scratched by the shops.
What I would demand is that my wheel returned to OEM and match the other three. If it does not match, I would ask that you take the wheel to the dealer and let them repair on NTBs dime. Most dealers have a repair shop that will return them to OEM finish. Its pricey but that's on NTB
