Does anyone know a good installer in Miami FL? I called Cartronics but i am not thrilled with them from the past.... they are an old school clifford installation/car stereo installer... I would like someone who specializes in BMW or foreign cars if possible.. There used to be a BMW specific shop but i cant find them anymore?!?
anyone know of a great installer for the STIR+ or Escort 9500CI in Miami? |

However they are pricey, so I have stopped using them. I now get my system installed in Atlanta (where the car gets delivered) before driving it down to Miami. The other guy I like in Miami is Total Auto Protection. It's owner is present and will work on the car with his assistant. Very solid guy - very careful and diligent. He installed the aftermarket video/apps/iPhone integration in my Lexus. Doesn't specialize in European cars, but I would trust him more than Cartronics. I think Cartronics is a mass market shop and not geared to the kind of quality and care I would want. Foreign Affairs Motorsports in Deerfield also specializes in BMW and is an Escort dealer - they did my Dinan work on my old 550 and did a good job. But I haven't seen their radar work and have no opinion on it.

I believe Kingpin Audio in Wilsonville has done an install on a 2013 M6.

Stealth,
Do you know anything about the Blinder HP 905 quad? I have seen some reports that it out performs the Laser interceptor and provides the best laser protection currently available. It appears to cost $800 + install not including any coupons. Thoughts? Also, is there any significant benefit of a built in radar detector like the Bel STi R plus vs a Window detector coupled with a high end laser jammer? Thanks. Matt

I am still planning to install the LI Quad HP when my car arrives. On your second question, I don't know why you say "coupled with a high end jammer". That has nothing to do with RD choice. I prefer a built-in radar for 3 reasons: 1) I don't like having loose electronics attached to my windshield. It's just another reason for someone to break the windows, or it may fall off and scratch my Piano Black trim. I don't use an aftermarket nav for same reason. 2) The current windshield radar detectors don't match the features or raw performance of the Bel STIR+. They're not bad, but they are not the best. 3) I spent over $100k on this car, and I am planning on driving it like it is meant to be driven. I am not going to put my driving license at risk because I wanted to save a few bucks on countermeasures. But that is a personal choice. We all have our priorities.

As far as ATL guys, StealthPilot reccomended Jim LaPlant and I have used him in the past, so has my father. Just wondering if any of you fellow Atlantans have used Dak with Car Tunes. I saw him up at the Petit LeMans and he installs a ton of systems on virtually ever type of high end car in the city. Basically, before I spend $2500 I want every opinion and as much info as I can possibly gather. Peace out.
PS - how bout some prayers for the Porgy out there in the Atlantic some where with some of our cars!!!

First - they weren't willing to let me watch - they have a closed shop. Second, I told them I wanted to discuss the install and placement with the installer and they said they would, but then a few hours later they completed the work without coming to the wait area for my input before starting the work. And the placement they used would not have been my choice. Third they got the install wrong the first time and I had to drive back because they buried the tracker in the dash and it had no signal. Fourth - on the second attempt, they got it right but scratched the leather on the inside of the car - I think they were rough because they were annoyed with me (even though I had been proven right in my request for them to consult me on placement). I would never go back there again. In their defense - they saw my review online and offered to fix the leather - but quite frankly - if you are offering damage recovery after I have made a public complaint, it is already game over as far as I am concerned - why should I take the car back and risk further damage while they replace the armrest. Quite frankly the entire place comes across as a high volume store with employees who don't care.

I just had the 9500Ci installed on my M5 last week (the first day I had the car back). They guys did a great job installing it and it is very stealth. I am a long time V1 user and just decided that since I've dropped 100k on a car, I could do with some better protection. So far it is great. They installed the control unit in the ashtray, the display just by the cup holders, the USB plug in is in the glove box, the speaker is by the passenger feet area and everything else is very well hidden. You can't tell its even there unless someone points it out.

FYI all, I emailed Cliff at LI and found that they are not doing a group buy discount right now because he is at his lowest price ever via his web store prices. Thus if you are looking for the LI sensors, the price on his web page is the price. With that said, he is willing to negotiate on bundles (e.g., radar detector plus LIs). He offered me the BMW Quad LIs plus the STiR Plus for $1898 plus $25 shipping ( $200 Less $25 shipping discount over his current list).
