"Material Changes" - to F10 M5 Electronics in July
So does anyone know the details behind this?
Per the Canadian M5 product planning guide material. "Please note that BMW USA announced availability of the M5 Sedan in the U.S. market as a MY2013 as of July 2012 production. BMW Canada’s M5 production will follow the same model year schedule. Also note that there is a material change expected to the M5’s vehicle electronics as of July 2012 production. The change will not impact the output or performance of the M5. Additional details of the change will be available in the later part of Q2 2012. With the model year and vehicle electronic changes expected as of July 2012 production, please ensure your customers consider this information before placing an order between 03/12-06/12 production." Thanks.... What in the world is it! |

Yes please, I am assuming its an upgraded NAV and some other items that are coming with the new 7er refresh. Dunno though. Please do find out! Only reason I still have not ordered mine yet.

I think what they're doing is making sure all the bugs are out before offering the car to the U.S. market. They know they will have a lot of orders to fill and they want everything to be as right as possible IMO. I just wish they would announce the damn price and the options/pricing so we can get an idea about how much this damn thing will cost. Jeez.

Say .. what's the difference between the price of low 90's US vs high 90's.
M5 buyers may not care much about such a (relative) small difference. If you want to play, you gotta pay. |

If we are really lucky, they'll incorporate an electronic/software method to disable active sound. Maybe we've made enough noise to have them make a change.

That is true, but still. It would be nice to know how much we gotta turn lose. This waiting is aggravating. I'm guessing about 95K myself. M |

BMW of North America decided to wait for some electronics updates to make their way into the M5 before we launch the car in the US. These updates enter production in July with the start of the 2013 model year. At this stage it is too early for us to provide the details of the planned updates. Not very informational I know, but we've got an inquiry into BMW Germany as well.

I have been told that one of the electronic upgrades you will see in the US is a larger rear entertainment system with a controller in the rear armrest(like the 7 series)...unfortunately I've also heard that the B&O sound system will not be option for MY 2013...perhaps in later MY's...

Thanks for all the responses.
The two points in the release I find interesting is the word "material" and the general warning that suggest some people might want to wait or dealer you better warn your customers so they are not mad later this summer. |

Good point.. I have a feeling it will be quite significant for them to warn about it. Remember the 7er is being refreshed and shares many of the same CCI systems.

But the warning only mentions the M5, not the other 5 Series models, nor the 6 Series. So may be something different. I have heard talk about engine electronics being changed to get rid of a few problems like many test cars going into limp mode during tests on tracks. This may also be why they stated it will not affect power produced
