I'm sure we can handle that.

Guess we will find out!! Car seems OK at this level with lots of hard driving and dyno pulls.
800'ish is likely what I will push on the stock short block. Honestly something else may break before rods! |

I think most owners here will be happy for a 10 second 700-900whp car and call it a day. So I don't think it'll end up ever getting pushed far enough where serious R&D will have to go into aftermarket parts. Which again is both sad and amazing because it speaks volumes about the quality of engineering that went into these BMWs, but sad that there isn't enough people willing to push it to the point that you we can get a path like the GTR or UGR or Evo. I mean for GTR its basically 495-650whp = FBO fun and requires minimal parts 650-800whp= Turbos, short block depending on tune, and 1st gear upgrade 800-1200whp= Turbos, block, axels, built trans with gears 1200-1500whp+= Full long block with headwork, trans, tires, turbos, raceFMIC I mean thats really what I would love to see from this generation of bmws a universally known [with a few exceptions here or there] path for making power, but I'm just not sure outside the few of us that it's going to get to that point. But defiantly major props for you going at it almost entirely on your own and I definitely look forward to seeing what you accomplish. |

I am in complete agreement with you. Several years ago it just did not make sense to me that the X5M was able to run low 11's with just a tune and an exhaust with basically the same motor. But, now it makes perfect sense that I have 600 rwhp from my most recent dyno session. Car is a handful to drive on the street aggressively with the stock tires. I, for one, will be very happy when I hit 700 plus rwhp and run in the high 10's so I can embarrass a few of my exotic car friends.

There aren't many 19/20 inch drag radials out there and if the m5 was big enough posting aggressive enough numbers might help create enough buzz to help the industry push forward because R888s will start to show their limits around 800-1000whp. But again why would ESS, AMS, etc. spend millions on making a 1000whp+ M5, X5M when the handful of us on here would be the only ones buying, maybe add in an equal amount of guys from each of the territories around the globe. Its just sad because while all my local car scene guys are looking at WRX's and Evos and insert routine name... I sit there and say buy an n54 335i, and for 20k-30k [a used beat evo is 12-20k] and with the most expensive top tier kits like MotiV and fuel it system you can make 700-800+whp and it'll be 50x safer than an evo with a tune and some bolt ons... Its just sad we've all not pushed BMWs to the point that they have real recognition as not just a platform to mod on, but one of the few that its actually safe to beat on and still get consistent safe performance |

It's odd even with the e60 m5's that now sell for 20-25K, people aren't really pushing those platforms as well. I beat on my E60 with a supercharger for 50K miles and had no issues whatsoever minus regular wear and tear.

Most people buying 335i/M5/M6/M3 now-a-days are looking for cheap cool rides, and if they mod they seem to do reliable mods and the community is rife with "Thats enough for me" attitude where it doesn't help feed the very few go big or go home part of the community.

We met today, and I made the mistake of going for a ride, now my car feels like a Corolla.
Thanks Ram. The experience was amazing, this car was something different in terms of how insanely powerful yet smooth power band. |
