Another AW/Sakhir Orange Delivered!

After a long wait, I finally picked up the vehicle! I'll post proper pictures soon. Here are some initial impressions:

There definitely is noticeable turbo lag, however hearing the turbo's spool is music to my ears, especially at lower speeds.

The ride in comfort mode is better than I thought it would be.

The factory radio sounds better than I was expecting.

There are buttons and settings everywhere in the car! I admit, I do miss simplicity.

This is my first vehicle with a HUD. I'm still not used to it so I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Disappointed with the lack of adjustable side bolsters on the seats.

An issue I noticed is that accelerating from a stop is not smooth. Once the rpm's hit around 1.5k, the car abruptly pulls.

The car does seem to make random noises at lower speeds. Hopefully not the rear springs.

This car really is bi-polar. From a comfortable cruiser to a missile at the push of button!

Will post more initial impressions tomorrow!

Can't believe this is the most popular color scheme. Must be an American thing.

Either way - Congrats!

My M5 came in and is still at the dealer. I test drove it the other day and did notice it was somewhat difficult to take off from a stop smoothly. I thought it might be the car is new or perhaps was just my experience. After reading your experience, obviously it's not just me. This has given me second thoughts. I have a 991 and actually find it to be a little more comfy and the power delivery smoother. These are two different types of cars and my current one is well broken in, I'm sure that has some bearing. Regardless, the dealership is picking up on the fact I maybe changing my mind and is rushing to get me to seal the deal....of course I don't blame them, but they'll just have to wait.

The lack of smoothness in starting from stop is a common complaint on BMWs with DCT.

I wonder if all cars with DCT are like that. Has anyone tried an Audi with DCT, such as an S4 or an S6?

I had a 2009 , 911 4s for nearly 3 years with DCT and I thought it was one of the best transmissions I had ever experienced . However over that period of 3 years there were about a half dozen times when the car would lurch a bit . Almost as if it were starting off in 2nd and realized it should be in 1st. This happened no greater than 5 or 6 times over some 11k miles.

Thanks guys! It was definitely a long wait! My CA told me that the CEO of BMW ordered all cars at the Brunswick port to be shipped out prior to hurricane Isaac, hence me getting mine earlier that expected.

I'm not disappointed, but being honest. I did get to drive around for an hour today, before Isaac headed this way for the next few days. As far as accelerating smoothly from a standstill, I did achieve it a few times. Apparently there is a technique, which required barely easing into the throttle. The exact pressure is something that has to be learned firsthand.

I'm going to adhere somewhat to the break in procedure of keeping the rev's under 5.5k. This really isn't that hard as there is so much torque, you hardly need to go over that limit.

Another observation today is that at lower speeds while accelerating, the exhaust sounds extremely identical to the older Subaru Impreza WRX's with the turbo 4 cylinder. Honestly, not very fond.

Can't wait to put some more time into it!

Were you able to figure out the source of the "random noises at lower speeds"?

It almost sounds like something loose or rattling around in the engine bay when accelerating at low speeds. It's not too noticeable unless its completely quiet inside. I did read in the owners manual last night that there will be unusual sounds emitted from the car because of the mechanical parts in the M so I assume it falls under that. Will keep an ear out though.

Also, while driving over road imperfections I heard something making a clacking sound. I was able to figure out it that its from the driver side grab handle on the top. May need to put something between the handle to absorb the sound.

It can't be any worse than he SMG in the E60s, can it? That had a tenancy to lurch until you figured out how to manage it.

+1. I have been in several DCT cars and have never experienced a lack of smoothness from stop.

DCT is worlds different than the SMG transmission in terms of smoothness (from stop, go, whatever).

The issue I was referring to isn't transmission related. I think it has more to do with the peak torque coming in at 1.5k rpm's so it tends to jolt you forward pretty hard from a stop, even under normal driving.

I plan to accelerate hard from every stop, so this won't bother me
