I got that malfunction message and the related effects a few weeks ago. I had more than half a tank of gas. It happened with a couple minutes of taking the car out one day. I shifted everything into sport plus/aggressive modes and then stepped on it and it immediately happened. I thought it was the drivetrain as my friend received a similar message on his 650 and had to replace his drivetrain. However, I pulled over, turned everything off and waited for about 5 minutes and when I started the car back up it was gone and the message hasn't appeared again.

I had this issue on my X5M with a tune..the dealer changed the misfiring cylinders and the problem was fixed for good..the M5 is going strong so far

Drivetrain Malfunction during alittle spirited driving with a GT3 today. Not happy.... Any solid ideas I can give my SA so they don't fumble around and waste my time???

No mods and thanks for the insight gents. Wasn't even pushing it hard, as I accelerated it felt like the car was hesitating and then boom, limp mode....Sucks.
