I don't have much complaints on brake dust on my F10 M5.
My e92 stock brakes were terrible and x5M was even worse. If my m5 was available with carbon brakes I would order it. I like the light gold calipers it comes with and it looks really good. I'm okay with the steel brakes though.

Am not going to make the mistake of replacing metal with squeling/squeaking carbon brakes. Metal ones are still much better -- ask those who have had the experience of getting carbon brakes only to regret getting them, later on. If your only problem is brake dust, you may prefer that to getting squeals/squeaks!

I'm personally ordering carbon brakes along with zcp and I will not be tracking the car..
My opinion : -Weight savings in each corner -probably wont ever have to change discs or pads -looks badass -less break dust. But It will probably be noisier than the regular brakes ? Thx

I say if you are planning to keep the M5 until about 100,000 miles then this is reason enough!
Although I am willing to bet large sums of money that there are going to be a lot of people ordering the Carbon Ceramics and then dump the car within 3 months to a year. After all it is the American consumerist way.

If I were ordering a LCI, I would buy them. The squeal is extremely minimal (as compared to other CCBs I've had/heard). They feel incredible on track and even noticeably different on the road.

Here are the thoughts from Albert Biermann, Vice President of Engineering, M Automobiles and BMW Individual: "The BMW M Carbon Ceramic Brake system is for those who love the German Autobahn and those who love the racetrack. Albert says he changed his strategy changed while driving at 300km/hr (186mph) on the Autobahn aboard an M6 equipped with these fantastic brakes. He used to downshift as he was braking but now with the new Carbon Ceramics he just nails the brakes. Letting the car stay in higher gear while braking instead of augmenting the car slowing with engine braking allows the engine temperatures to cool a few degrees which gives you more power when you are ready to hammer it again. A huge benefit of the Carbon Ceramic Brakes is the reduction in unsprung weight of 42 lbs, increased braking force and much better heat dissipation and fade resistance." Aside from the weight savings, they really only benefit high-speed driving, obviously not much of an issue outside Germany.

If there is advantage in reducing overall weight, wouldn't it be more beneficial for the driver to reduce his weight by such -- not only will he have better car maneuvering capabilities with his M5 but he is also prolonging his average lifespan (i.e. barring any fatal auto mishaps). Just my 2 cents.

Unsprung weight is the combined weight of the wheels, tires and brakes, and a lower unsprung weight means the suspension can do a better job of keeping the tires in contact with the pavement. You have to understand that the job of the car's suspension is to keep the tires in contact with the pavement, not "suspending" the car, to understand this benefit.

Not doing it myself. Not tracking the car often and even if I did, an aftermarket BBK like AP or Stoptech will do a better job with heat dissipation and braking force than OEM, CCB or not. I am also still highly suspect of BMW's claim that these will last 100,000 miles. That being said it's not that expensive, really. CCB options are often north of $10,000.
Regardless, I am going to let others be the guinea pigs for this one. If the rotors hold up to a beating and they actually do last as BMW claims, it might be worth it. Quote:

My briefs to family members have little to do with reality. For instance I told them it has Active collision avoidance so it will brake automatically to prevent an accident. This comforts them when I am accelerating towards a slow moving vehicle that I intend to pass. No CCBs on my next car.
