F10 M5 Leather Options - Full Leather vs Individual Leather

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello everyone, new here, but been following for a while.

Anxiously awaiting the opportunity to place my order and have been messing around with the USA M6C configuator.

Has anyone noticed that the Indivudual leather options on M6C are for FULL leather and not the extended as we have been hearing for M5. Kind of makes a big deal to me, so I was wondering if anyone thinks that will hold true for M5 or not.

Of all the Individual interior photos posted here I've yet to see an extended leather version. I'm thinking Individual leather isn't available in extended option. http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587448

I had the same dilemma in choosing Champagne Individual or Full Black.
I went with Full black.
And now I don't regret

PS: I wonder why BMW NA don't offer same options as in Germany

I think at this point we would just like to be able to order the actual car.

If you look at the pictures closely and watch them change with the configurator with the M6, I think with the individual you are getting black leather on the dash. It doesn't say it is full but I don't think it is the same as standard extended when you go with individual leather. Would be nice to know for sure.

OP, you do realize that despite its name, "Extended" is actually the lower-end leather, right? Full leather is the upgraded option, which is probably why all Individual options are Full. Maybe in other markets there's a "standard" leather that covers even less area than Extended?

Using the Canadian order as a guide (I know) it defines full and extended coverages.
Extended is the lesser option with Full being as much leather as we can reasonably buy from them. With the dash being the major difference as I see it.

From M6C Configurator:
Standard colors in Extended are no cost addition
Standard colors in Full are $3500
and Individual (only option is Full) is a $5k adder

I guess my whole point up to this is that I understood that Individual leather options only included the lesser "extended" and "full" wasnt an option. So if the M5 is going to be the same as the M6C, we will have the option for full Individual colors.

I asked my dealer if I could get Cohiba Brown individual but in full leather instead of extended. The answer was yes. The price CDN$ 10,000! Custom order. I guess you can do just about anything if you are prepared to pay.

Here is a great breakdown of Extended Leather vs Full Leather, courtesy of VintageFerrari's post from another thread.

On standard EXTENDED Merino Leather, ALL of the following are BLACK PLASTIC, irrespective of the leather color selected:
(1) Rear of seat backrest
(2) Folding pockets in Black Leatherette (rear of seat backrest)
(3) Upholstery insert door trim (this is Colored Leatherette/vinyl, matching the color of the leather surfaces)
(4) Center Console sides
(5) Door upper-arm trim panel
(6) Instrument panel (upper section)
(7) Instrument panel (lower section)

On BWM Individual EXTENDED Merino leather, EVERY item on the above list becomes leather (i.e. as is similarly the case for non-Individual FULL Merino Leather), EXCEPT for:
(1) Door upper-arm trim panel remains BLACK plastic grained
(2) Instrument panel (upper section) remains BLACK Foil grained (vinyl)

You would think that for the extra $1,500, BMW would also provide their Individual interiors with the Black Leather Upper Dashboard and Black Leather Door upper-arm trim panel that are BOTH leather-covered on the Full Merino (non-Individual) interior option.

Individual Leather covered dashboard is possible, but not usually shown in country order guides.
You need to special order it. This may not be available in all countries and where available may be very expensive

You need to order option "4M5 - Individual Leather Covered Dashboard"

There are actually many levels of Individual available, only some of which are not advertised due to cost and waiting time.
For instance, if you pay enough, they will paint your car in any colour you want, not just BMW colours.

The trouble with this is that then you have a trim mismatch between the upper door arm panel which is plastic grained, and the dash which will be Nappa (exactly like in my 550i which is Extended Nappa with 4M5 Individual leather dash)

I find it ridiculous that the price goes up to $5k, and they make the car look cheaper than the $3500 leather by leaving you with plastic dash and door arms.

I am debating whether to settle for Full Silverstone II Merino Leather, or alternatively to just buy a 650 GranCoupe instead and get some Dinan tuning, or wait for the M6 GranCoupe.
