painting the door handle chrome strips

I am intending on having the chrome door handle strips painted to match the body colour of my car. Has anyone done this and if so, how durable do you think the paintwork will be on the chrome - is it likely to chip off easily or can it key to the chrome well?

Thanks

Did you have the chrome strips removed for painting, or do they mask it off while its still on the handle?

Just a note the "chrome" strips are actually plastic strips fixed with double sided tape to the door handle.
Painting them might not be as long lasting as using a vinyl tape/wrap .
Also using a vinyl wrap can easily be done on the car without taking the strip off the handle
Painting and masking off would certainly be more involved

+1

We painted them on the iND M5 but I recommend just having a vinyl shop take care.

Does iND sell painted strips for the door handles to match the color of the car? I see that you're selling painted reflectors, so it would be great to have the same option for the chrome strips in the door handles.

Problem is one can't buy the chrome plastic inserts separately .
BMW is only selling a complete and pre-painted door handle (300$/p) .
As you're in MA and if you happen to be around the Boston area I can offer you a few choices for folks who can help you.

Thanks. Yes, I'm near Boston (about 30 minutes west of the city).

Recommendations would be much appreciated!

A great guy to get things done is JD Chidsey in Winchester (781-771-1500) , he
does great detailing work and lots of other things (clear bra, painting via
"Dick's Autobody" etc), deals with plenty of high end cars and I've used
him for years . Very reliable and helpful.

Another excellent resource is Rick from Unique Car Care in Wakefield ,
he does great work but can be pricey for some (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Uniqu...Auto-Detailing)

Or if you're up to heading to Nashua/NH I can highly recommend BMW Tulley for service and body work (paint/vinyl etc) .

Once I get mine I'll start emptying the parts bin and put them on the actual car
Happy to meet up at some point.

Sounds great. Thanks for the detailer recommendations.

I'll let you know when I'm headed to NH and we can get together. Do you ever go to the track up there?

Yup. I'm in Boston on a regular basis. Often multiple times a week (usually in the Fortpoint area)

Chicago Area????

Does anyone have a referral for the Chicago area to paint or vinyl coat the chrome strips? I'd appreciate it.

For those that have done vinyl I'm assuming black is the only option? Anyone have photos to share?

We can paint them for you. Shoot me a pm.

We also just started a core program where we ship the door handle set pre painted. I will have a thread up tomorrow.

This is fantastic! I would like AW inserts rather than vinyl wrapped black...

I think painting the chrome on the door handle is just like getting painted reflectors. It is a must. They are easy to remove and reinstall. They are held on with double side tape.

hard to see on white, but we deleted all the chrome on my wife's f10 535i.

The first cores are going out today. I'll have a thread up today so that we can start the list. AW would be no problem at all.
