HRE wheels with 20mm spacers
I have an opportunity to purchase a set of 21” HRE monoblock wheels, but there’s a slight problem with the offset on the rears.
The front wheels are fine, and made specifically for a F10 M5. The rears, however, were made for a F12 6 series, and are a 21x11 +52mm offset. According to HRE, the only way to run these wheels would be to utilize a 20mm spacer, which they don’t recommend. But, I feel like the price for these rims is entirely fair, and I’d like to get the opinions of you guys on whether running those 20mm spacers is a good idea. Thanks! Well, I went ahead and bought them, so the worst that can happen is that I have to resell them. No big deal.
But someone please correct me if I’m wrong, because I think HRE made a mistake in the math.... The original wheel is 20x10+34 The HRE wheel is 21x11+52. A difference of 18mm Because the HRE is 12.7mm wider on each side of center, in order to bring the wheel to the original place (in relation to my fender), I would only need a 5mm spacer. Does that sound right? |

HRE said to put a 20-mm spacer because most buyers of HRE or aftermarket wheels would like a wider stance; usually the offset of an 11" rear wheel is in the low 30's. I, for one, do not see a problem with a 20-mm spacer, just as long as it is hub-centric. |

I honestly just think that the rep at HRE didn’t notice the width difference, and pointed me towards a 20mm spacer. Now, now I just have to decide whether or not to keep my 343M’s. |
