I said lets race. He said no.
Ran into this dude in the wild. First time I've seen one on the street.
Just kidding about the racing. Lol! Would've been an interesting result with my car making so much extra horsepower though.

Is that the Z06?
I raced a non Z06 from 60-130 on the way to Vegas last year. Beat him easily.

In the hands of a good driver not too much on the street is going to touch a Z06. Most will be 7 speeds. I think the autos are just starting to ship again.
I've tried to get one, none to be had in Canada.

I theorize that if a stock Z06 raced a stock Comp Pack M5 in a rolling race, it wouldn't be a blood bath for the M5, but it would still lose, the numbers just won't match up. 650hp vs 575hp. 4,400lbs vs 3,500lbs. M6 would do better against the Z06 though. I'm sure we'll get a video of it one day. Would also be interesting to see a Z06 go up against a P85D or for that matter an M5 vs a P85D.

Very nice! See this is what I love about our M5.. it looks so tame and friendly as opposed to the menacing looking corvette but man, oh man, doesn't our beast kick some serious ass, heh!!

Look guys, I love our cars, but there is no way a stock M6 or M5 can beat a stock C7 Z06 at any speed, any time. If you do, its only because the Z06 isn't racing (or its driver is an idiot).

First of all my quote was on C7 and not C7 Z06! Second, on the paper the car with more power and more torque and less weight must be faster if that car can put its power down! C7 Z06 is a rear wheel drive car with slightly front bias weight distribution (51/49), but not a rear or mid engine or AWD car to be able to take advantage of 650 lb-ft torque. It means most of this high amount of torque is "useless". There is no perfect traction or grip to help this car out to jump off the line as quick as possible or accelerate and go like a rocket. Maybe skill drivers can manage these power and torque. But yet compare to M5/M6 it's faster. Motor trend reported 0-60 in 3.2 second and 1/4 mile in 11.3 second @126 mph which is a good result but not amazing for a car with this much power/torque. My point is we cannot judge just based on power and weight and basic physics and no way American cars can beat German cars in traction. Let me leave this video here to see how C7 Z06 compete with Hellcat with a bit more power (50-60 HP) but a lot more weight (800-900 lb) .

Smart driver, there is a reason he said No. He would get mopped up LOL. Judging from this write up a stock M5 should be neck and neck with the new Z06. I have a stock R35 and it's pretty slow from a roll...

M6, I wasn't responding to you specifically and I knew you didn't mean a Z06. I was just talking in general. I am also not just referring to physics but rather every single thing I have read. Some of the discussion above is not just off the line, but acceleration from speed where putting the power down is not as much of an issue. Aerodynamics start to come into play more than mass. I have driven a new Z06 (not on a track so experience is limited) but the thing is ridiculous and puts the power down. No question.
I know fully well the potential of our cars. And taking driver skill out of the equation, they are not capable of beating a C7 Z06. Assuming of course the chevy's engine doesn't blow. |
