You guys are crazy. It’s nowhere that expensive. Would be a waste of money to spend $50-$80 on this platform... especially considering it does nothing but depreciate!

It is if you are at the forefront. Im not saying ive spent 80k on my car but its definitely over 50. Depreciation you say? Duh. This is why i bought my M5 second hand lol. You forget i started to mod my car before i blew the motor. Once we started we started with a blank canvas. So I have been through several different setups = $$$$$.

Now, Im not saying getting it done for a cheaper price is a bad thing as i know most people would be very budget conscious but its not for me.

Normally when building a motor there are several different places you have to take it to and or companies you have to order parts from. Takes alot of researching. I however found a shop that did everything for me. Whenever i decided to do a built engine/big turbo build Dan (the owner of BPC) already had a full list of parts and necessary items that we would need to build the motor. He always asked whenever we had to buy any extra supporting mods and explained it with detail. He took care of everything. They worked on my car at least 4hrs everyday even though they were already completely booked with other BMW?s needing service.

In the end I guess you could say i gained more than just a fast M5. They treat me like family. If i could have found a shop like them in the past i would have said the same thing...hurry up and take my money

Here is a video of Dan ripping it up at VIR in his sleeper E30 with E39 M5 engine swap. Chase car is tracked prepped C7 Z06 with BBK

That’s why I sold my previous M5 and resurrected this one from the dead. Not saying doing this type of work is cheap in any way but everybody approaches things differently.

If you know the stuff and/or how to get the right people and things, then it will always be more cost effective than simply handing over to a single source for turnkey solution. I guess you're paying yourself for the time. I'm no expert in car rebuilts, but this is the always true in almost everything. Kudos to you guys for pushing the envelope on this platform and paving the road for future builders.

And i would agree with you in most cases. The fact of the matter is BPC is literally 15 mins down the road from my house, they have shown me that they are true professionals and not keyboard mechanics, they have always treated me with respect even before the engine build, pretty much every one there has a clean project car, their passion for tuning and modding surpasses my own, and they have years of track racing experience.

We may not have picked the cheapest route but we decided to get the best of the best quality and the most reliable. Ive put over 14k miles on the built motor with no issues and if we ever have any problems with the car its a one stop shop instead of multiple phone calls to different places to figure out a problem.

All the above works - ultimately it’s the outcome. Personally I want to be involved (hands-on) in the R&D, the engineering, the tuning and ultimately the driving. There are certain things the experts need to do but everything else is certainly doable! Having built and raced cars for 25 years that’s worked for me.

Oh also forgot to mention if you are super OCD about stock wastegate rattle well... just get a set of external wastegates and huge turbos and that will solve that!

I mean... If I could get as a reliable turn key killer as a 1000-1200whp gtr is which I daily drove for 30k miles on the build. And I could go get a 39k 70-100k mile 2013 m5, get it machined, trans done, and for 70kish with build included be all in it have a comfortable daily monster...

Idk why anyone would think thats a waste of money. Unless of course you do all or most of the work yourself. Those guys always think its outrageous for people to spend for turnkey options

As someone who does most of the work themselves it's not the turn key cost that ever throws me off it's usually I want some done a specific way and only way I know for sure is if I do it myself. Boost Logic was really good at doing what I wanted but I spent a lot of time in Austin. Now I have my own shop with lifts, dynojet, etc. unless it's full on fab work it's just easier for us to do things.

Turn key 1000-1200whp for $70k seems a bit high unless you are talking about a bullet proof transmission (not just clutches), upgraded diff, etc. Then I could def. see it being worth while.

I don't know how many special tools are needed to build the motors like we have to use on the Porsche's (which I source out to the best in the USA (John @ EVOSpec)). Which would effect the cost of the motor being built, which I fully understand. Now if someone wants $30k and you to send the motor for upgraded rods/pistons/bearings with stock heads/cams then yeah that's a big no. There is some gouging going on at that point.

That was including the price of a 2013/14 70-100k mile m5 which is about 30 something...

Great, loved the E30 M3, amazing grip and turn in on that thing, very 'darty'. Well done, great to see the M5 keep up in terms of grip and poise. What suspension are you running ?

Is it safe to assume borg warners weren't that great? Are they at least better than the stock ones?
