DP rattle - do you have a tune or piggy?

Those that have cat-less downpipes, do you have a waste gate rattle?

Can you post if you do or don't eitherway and list if you have a JB4, Piggy, Flash tune, please give tuners name and stage plus mileage so we can see what works or not so we can see if there is any trends to blame for the rattle.

Also if you have the rattle have you looked at your waste gates to see if you have wear like the N54 guys get:

but some cars aren't effected so I am trying to rationalise the fault i.e down to a tune /Piggy changing the way the waste gate is managed or is it wear like with the N54's or possible a change by BMW?

Catted downpipes muffle the wastegate rattle just like your radio muffles suspension noise. This isn't tune related, you can clearly see in the videos you posted that it's a hardware issue...you've answered your own question, so if you're looking for anyone to blame, it'd be Garrett.

It can vary from turbo assembly to turbo assembly. The OEM DP's just muffle the rattle, that's all.

The DME does a few interesting things with the wastegate to help build boost quickly and there may be workaround via the tune to alleviate the rattle. However depending on what is actually done it may negate BMW's original intention with how the wastegates operate especially in sport plus mode.

It's possible by opening the wastegate some the rattle should go away. But what effect that has on spool, boost control etc I have no idea.

I've had it with the Jb4 and with the tune.

As others have said, this is a pre-existing condition that is just muffled by the catted Downpipes and muffler.

I have noticed with different muffler systems (Catless DP included) that the sound is sometimes louder than others. I know some with meistercraft mufflers say it's annoyingly loud while some with like RPI GTM don't hear it.

With my stock resonators and muffler delete it was annoying as f*ck.

Right now I have a an MSR exhaust which is straight piped in a way and I barely hear it.

MissionPerformance just posted that they are able to control it through the tune to minimize it.

Watching the video of the pushrod rattling at the clip and the disk spinning within the turbo itself, I don't know how anyone can think software is going to remedy this. That's like thinking a tune will fix a broken water pump.

I'm sure there a way to minimize it but it a way to eliminate it with the tune. I guess we will see. I'm sure curious how it affects performance

I wasn't blaming a tune or piggy or even OEM, I just want to see what the varieables are and look for trends.

A tune could possible 'help' if the waste gate was kept closed.

Any way thanks for your answers so far.

Pure has commented else where that this is not a wear problem like the N54's but a function of design by BMW/Garett that isn't a problem unless you uncork the exhaust.

Sounds like if you run straight through the problem is gone but only because you can't here it over the exhaust I woud guess!
