Which Tune do I go with?

So I have read a lot about all the different tunes and such. I am new to the m5 but own a 535 with a jb4... Just picked up the m5 last week..I freaking absolutely love the car.. It is a BEAST. I am looking to step the power up via tune and could use some advice on which brand/tune to go with.

Put a jb4 in my 535.. I was really happy with the result.. I thought it was a huge difference.
So I am looking to do the same on the M.

I am going to keep the car pretty much stock. I want to do an intake but cant see spending 500+ for maybe 5 horses.

So what tune should I get? I am not looking to spend 3k so that eliminates the Dinan. Does that basically leave the jb4?

How is the jb4 on these cars? Is the stage 1 tune any good? Or is it a waste? Should I just go for the stage 2 if I were to buy a jb4?

So which tune should I go with guys? I really appreciate the advice guys.

You have several vendors out there providing amazing tunes but it sounds to me like you're leaning more towards the JB4. I would defining pick up the JB4+BCM and use map 2.

I am not necessarily leaning that way.. I just have experience there. I am open to all and would love to hear of other options. I would like the best bang for the buck.

One thing... I just don't want to ruin the warranty so I want to make sure these aren't detectable after removal.

Nearly this entire folder is dedicated to the tunes that are out there. I would recommend browsing them and asking some detailed questions in the threads themselves. Heck, some of your questions may have already been answered.

MSR, BPM, ESS, Precision, Mission Performance, ACM, Dinan, BR Performance, Evolve, and the list goes on.

I agree with the list and definitely a ton of data here for tune vs piggy.

I agree especially as some the tuners seem to jump on others and rubbish their toones as 'press release files', generic and bought in, its really hard to see the wood for the trees or in this case a good tuner who knows what he is doing.

It seems to come down to personal preference and recommendation (being careful of fan-boyitiss) rather than emperical data.

I personally went with MSR for their tune. The reason for that is because of m6beast outstanding customer service and attention to detail. He always answers his phone or text and has been willing to fly to Texas to help us through any of our issues. There may be a better tune there but I haven't seen anyone match that level of service that he provides. I know that if I have an issue I can count on him to take ownership and fix the issue of any.

ACM, DME Tuning, and Precision have also been out standing people to work with.

Sure would be nice to have m6beast fly back to Texas for another flash & tune group buy! Maybe Houston this time.

I have had a flash tune, Dinan Stage 1 & 2, Jb4 stage 1, jb4 +BCM stage 2, and flash jb4 stack between my M5 and M6. Be careful with a flash tune unless you know the people who are doing it and will do it properly as it requires removal of the ecu's and opening them up. Make sure they know how to open them up and reseal them properly. Some flash tuners drill holes in your ecu's then just plug them up or cover it up with tape, which I caution you do not want to do as it is a permanent hole in your ecu casing. I was really bothered by this when I got my flash tune as the tuner did not reseal the casing properly. I would ask them how they are doing it before you go with any flash tuner. Also, a lot of the tuners just buy files and flash them on your car instead of modifying themselves. I don't believe there are many tuners that actually adjust the parameters themselves on this platform. My only positive about a flash tune is that it has the ability to remove the top speed limiter and smoother power delivery. Also, sometimes issues occur several miles after a flash tune and diagnosing the issue is a PITA. Some tuners will deny that it is their tune that is causing the issues even after you prove to them the issue does not come back after you flash back to stock (especially the tuners that buy premade tune files).

Having said that, I currently run only the Jb4 +BCM on my M6. I like to have the flexibility to control the settings myself and can install and remove it anytime I want. It gives you the ability to turn off active sound, change maps, increase led brightness, remove CEL(if you have catless dp), log parameters while driving, all can be done on the fly. Terry is also very responsive to any questions you have via email.

Currently run JB4+BCM on map 2, and very happy with it. Can't go wrong with this or a good flash tune (contact Mo@DMETuning).

I'm sure you'd be really happy with our software. And after it's programmed here, the ECU's can be flashed from the comfort of your own home in 3 minutes.

It seems the JB is the most popular. Which company to choose getting it from?

Hey Mike, can you flash your Stage II with stock downpipes if we plan to have them swapped over to catless at a later date - and if it's not an issue, do you have any idea at how much power (hp/tq) is left on the table with your Stage II tune and stock downpipes?

Thank you.

Not advisable to run Stage II with stock downpipes as there is too much of a restriction. It won't blow anything up, but the car will just dial back the power, so running Stage II might actually produce less power than Stage I.

Much better off starting with Stage I, and then flashing to Stage II once the downpipes are on, or a couple days before.

Only takes three minutes to flash a new tune, and we're always available to help with this remotely.

I run Stage 1.5 on my car because I have stock DPs, but I stay on top of it by using higher octane fuel or mixing E85 to keep combustion quality in check. 91 octane just doesn't cut it.

Understood...and thanks for the quick explanation. Would a Stage 1.5 flash and 93 octane be advisable or would it be best to just stick with Stage I until those cats are gutted?

That's do-able, but putting in a couple gallons of E85 wouldn't hurt.

Have you guys seen this recent thread? I'm strongly considering this. Looks like a Cobb Accessport to me. Not sure yet if they will support my M5. Sent them an email this morning..
